As the chef I would have pointed the guy out to the maitre d' (sp.?) and told him to refuse seating should the guy ever come in again. That is, assuming I thought that would go over--do restaurants have a "this customer is not worth serving" list?
Instead, the chef responded in the totally inappropriate manner of tainting the guy's food. I don't believe in clogging the prison system. They should bar the guy from working in food prep for some period of time. Perhaps a year. What say? Should the guy ever be allowed in a kitchen that serves the public again? I'm not a tough customer, but I don't think I'd want this guy prepping my meals.
agree with u...
its kinda scary if u think about it, what ppl can do to ur food. did ya ever see fight club or waiting?? =X
sorry, ick!!!

And why is this guy not worth serving? Because he wanted his meal correct?
And it was the manager that got him to order another steak. He originally declined.
I used to travel extensively. I also would send food back if it was not what I ordered. When you pay good money for something you deserve to have it right. The manager understands this and took the appropriate action to insure the customer would return.
If you are willing to accept sub-par service and incorrect items, that is your right to do so. But to restrict others for doing the same? Unacceptable.
That is a totally outrageous. Up to 3 1/2 years in prison for that, give me a break. That is just crazy. A few strands of cooked facial hair or even hair from unmentionable places from below the waistline is unlikely to cause any disease at all. Cooking would kill any germs in that hair. It does have a yuck factor to it though. Banning him from being a cook for a couple of years would be an appropriate punishment for a first offense.

Ugh.
As someone who used to have an interest in the food industry, that irritates me. Putting foreign objects of any kind be they hair or otherwise is completely disgusting. It nauseates me to know that people who are supposed to be TRAINED in how to avoid food-borne illnesses and other things would stoop to such a low level to get back at a customer.
Also, this is a perfect case for not sending stuff back to the kitchen. Bad idea. e-e
