Hey Aubrey, BTW that was interesting abt how ya took forensics in college and that hair follicles (the DNA derived fr. 'em, that is) STILL aren't as reliable as fingerprints! Speakin' OF prints, didja know that the dermal ridges of the third phalanx IF they resemble a "Bishop's staff" or a "shepherd's crook" have been ascertained to belong to people with bipolar disorder? Nice way to further narrow things down in a "clinical" person's perpetration, ja?
I ain't got 'em; so HAH HAH St. Vincent's of Westchester for misdiagnosing me! I was never bipolar.
I, too, am a horror film maven. What'd ya think of "Blair Witch", or the recent "Cloverfield"? Well, "Diary o/t Dead", despite being a Romero, is shot the same way, hand-held cells. Yo, what is WITH that?!
I'm still gonna see it, though; see you on the aisle, I'm the guy w/t hair! Enjoy yourself! LOL!
Spookily yours,
Q.
Da-muttha-effing-bomb! I've read mixed reviews about "Diary Of The Dead". They say it isn't like any film Romero has directed before. I'm looking forward to it, it's always great to see a Romero zombie movie.
Speaking of Romero and zombies, I recently "downloaded" Argento's latest movie, "la Terza Madre". I was expecting some artistic masterpiece similar to Suspiria and Inferno but it fell short, In my opinion. The eerie and beautiful cinematography he is known for is lacking. the score is mediocre and the plot is incoherent(which isn't a bad thing of course, style over substance :-p) The movie was very gory however, one of his goriest to date. The gore-hounds will have a blast.
Mild Spoiler: (My favorite scene in the film was the scene where the "mad" mother throws her infant child off a bridge!......... OUCH!
So, whatever happened to my mad butler role? :-)
Hasta luego mi querido duende que tiene muchisimo duende. olé HA!
Ola! Oje! Saludos grandes, Senor Cristofer, mi amanta projimo del horror tambien! Yo todavia lo reservo para ti! {(;-)}
Sus para Elvaleryn!

what did ya think of the remake of Halloween?
tc
Aub
Hi Aubrey
The original, classic Halloween is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. In fact, I think this movie pretty much is responsible for popularizing the "slasher" genre. It was originally supposed to be a sequel to "Black Christmas"(The first TRUE slasher), but then the idea fell off and the scr ipt was changed.
In my eyes, the original was flawless, except for a few continuity errors of course.. It was ambiguous, had a menacing score, superb cinematography, and was downright terrifying. The ambiguity surrounding the Myers character made him very scary. The less you know, the scarier. He had no motive, he was just unadulterated EVIL.
This is where the remake falls apart for me. Michael Myers is given a motive, he is turned into a human being with feelings and emotions. We are supposed to feel pity for him and finally "understand" why he is who he is. The typical Hollywood cliche. He was brought up in a broken home, he had abusive and neglectful parents, he was made fun of and physically abused, etc... So now, he wants revenge.
In spite of that, the movie wasn't directed very well. It had shaky-cams galore, terrible dialog and acting, too many useless scenes, lacked character buildup, incoherent timeline etc.... Towards the second half of the film, It all goes completely downhill. It almost seems like a very poor rehash of the old film. The second half seems like a different movie altogether.
The one word that comes to mind when I think about the remake is "garbage". Well with that said, I'd like to suggest a few horror movies since you asked. I'm going to make the list below:
1."The Tenant" 1976
2."Rosemary's Baby" 1968
3."The Beyond" 1981
4."The Innocents"
5."Suspiria" 1977
6."Opera" 1987
7."Deep Red" 1975
8."Dead Of Night" 1945
9."H6: Diary Of A Serial Killer" 2005
10."Videodrome" 1983
11."The Brood" 1979
12."The House By The Cemetery" 1981
13."Don't Look Now" 1973
14."Alice, Sweet Alice aka Communion 1976
Semi Horror:
"Angel Heart" 1987
"Magic" 1978
"Hard Candy" 2005
Hope you like the list. Take care
Chris H

P.S. ~ Chris, man, I really think thatcha oughta have a horror blog, your proficiency at critique is nothing less than stellar. A column in "FANGORIA" would be nuthin' less than apropos . . . seriously!
Thank you very much Quenyan for the kind words about me and my hair, and my photobucket progress pics. I had no idea that you were fluent in Spanish. Your Spanish is very well written, In fact, nearly impeccable. Thats so cool man!
i totally agree with u on the Halloween remake. i am a huge Carpenter fan, the the original is still one of my all time faves. the remake i thought was ok, but i think u were right about Zombie making him to human. hell, i cried when Mike finally got Lori alone and bowed down to her. i cried for him, and there for a sec i thought Lori was a bitch! lol
i like the first one. the whole idea of him being totally void of emotion is spooky in itself. loved the direction and the score. the lurking effect always gets me!
