not into heavy metal or guitar playing?
I'm just noticing a bit of a pattern not just here but everywhere that lots of long haired guys are either guitarists or into the heavy metal fraternity.
Anyone else fall outside this? I dabbled in playing bass for a while and did really get 'into' the whole metal scene for a couple of years (but had long hair before) and now I don't play bass any more (played keys and synths for 20 years, still playing) or really identify that much with the metal side of music.
Last time I tried posting on this subject it never made it to the board but I don't think I'm asking anything offensive?
Cheers
I'm also thinking of a new name - any suggestions?
RM
I'm not much of a guitar player... I don't even know how to play it yet! lol. And I personally don't like heavy metal music...
So I kinda fall outside that group. But I'm not a longhair. yet. :)
RainMaker looks fine as a name :P
I guess I don't....I'm growin it out because I love metal. I play a little guitar, but I'm a screamer!
I'm into metal, but that's not the reason I'm growing it out. I do understand where you're coming from though.
I'd kill to be a metal vocalist though. Or any vocalist for that matter, even victoriandustrial. But metal does hold a place in my heart...a loud, growling, beauty and the beast place.
I like to listen and dance to Swing music, Salsa (and other Latin dance music), C&W, and even Frank Sinatra!
Although I like to watch head-banging, I can't stand Metal Music, --- I'd have to bring ear-plugs to a concert (if I even ever went to one - lol)!!

Hello
I'm a metalhead , playing guitar and having long hair :D
Cya
I'm the "other" type of longhair music. I'm into classical music mostly...although I enjoy most all the other types (except screamo).

P.S. RainMaker is a good and original name.
I don't play guitar, or any other instrument for that matter. And I listen to some metal, but I'm not too into it and it has 0 influence as to why I grew my hair out.
Part of my long hair growth has come from a lot of my friends/cousins growing out their hair which influenced me to try it out. I also admired Football (Soccer) players who grew their hair out. I like to play A LOT of Football/Soccer.
I'm also a big fan of wrestling and there are many wrestlers in WWE/TNA/RoH who have long hair.
I would say I'm more of a hard rock fan than a heavy metal fan. I also think that 90% of hardcore heavy metal is derivative and based largely on Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin (ducks to avoid being flamed!). I love both those bands, but find very few true HM bands all that interesting. A sign of age, possibly.
I like metal but i'm also into jazz, funk, reggae, rock, electronica and most other types of music ;)
Not much into the guitar/metal scene here.
I love designing and building "old school" analog synthesizers, audio pre-amps and power amplifiers.

Hi Oren
Yeah I remember you and wondered where you got to - I remember the analogue synthesizers as that's also a huge interest of mine. I'm sure you visited my website a few years ago as I did have a go at building a rudimentary keyboard instrument but it certainly doesn't qualify as a modular and in truth it's not really a synth because it can only generate one monophonic sawtooth wave - the rest is left to effects units - as many as you care to put it through, but it works.
Cheers!

That would be me. I like Bob Marly, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Jefferson AirPlane and a lot of other 60's bands. Only thing I hate is Rap and country.
I've never touched a guitar in my life.
Jazz is the one true music!
well i listen to and play viking metal, but my long hair has no relation to it. i more grew it out because ive always looked good with long hair, and ive always like having it as well.
Definitely jazz here. Been playing professionally since I was 15, 40 years ago. As far as I know, I'm the only long haired jazz musician in my local area [San Francisco South bay area]. I know of one other musician who had medium/long hair but then cut it quite short. Although my playing preference is jazz, I like to listen to all kinds of music...

Im into metal, but also a lot Into PROG.
Bands like Pink floyd, porcupine tree, Dream theater.
But on the other Hand I play guitar and keyboard.
I for one don't suject anyone elee to my music. I can't carry
a tune with a handle and after watching the people on American
Idol I opt to not subject the world to my awful singing and
attempt at making msic.
Even though I have waist length hair I can't sing and
shouldn't subject the world to it.
Classics for myself. Favorite classical period extends from 1890-1945. Late Romantic through Modern. Chopin however is the one exception. (1810-1849.)
nah, i'm not really, although i guess some of my tastes overlap (post-rock is a favorite genre).
if anything though my long hair was inspired by richard d. james (aphex twin) and aaron funk (venetian snares), masters of electronic music who happen to sport long hair as well
I like post-rock too. You like Piano Magic?
i hadn't heard of them. looked them up- very good! how about efterklang or tera melos?
I like Efterklang! Especially their album 'Tripper'. But I haven't heard from Tera melos yet. I will look them up.
Yeah, I play a lot of guitar and love metal.
I started growing my hair because of metal, and also because I think it looks great. I´ve always wanted it.
So yeah, I fall into your category. :)
I'm not into heavy metal, as my favourite music is soul of the 1950s-70s with some pop, rock and country thrown in. I don't play any musical instruments, either.
Not into metal at all.
Play a little acoustic guitar; easy listening; Eagles, Little River Band, etc.
