Hey Guys:
I just had the worst hair experience today. I went to my hairdresser with hopes of getting light brown highlights through my dark brown/black hair. The stylist wouldn't go with a brown because she said it would turn red. She ended up using an ash brown and instead of a tiny bit of highlights she practically bleached my head ash blonde. It came out terrible, and my hair actually looked grey! I was seriously shaking driving home. My parents just looked at me and shook their head, they agreed it looked grey. I called her back and asked what she could do to get rid of the highlights. She told me to come back and she would tone them out. Now my hair is somewhat back to normal, although around the mid-part I have blondish-red roots. On top of that my hair feels like wires or straw. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to treat this dye job gone bad? My hair is already curly/wavy/thick and now it's condition is horrible. I don't want to lose my hair i've been growing for a year and a half!!! Please help!!!

Um, she could have counteracted the red by adding a small dab of green to the color. My instructors tell me that not many hairdressers understand the Color Wheel well enough to be able to make these sorts of adjustments . . . then again, they tell me that most of the time, getting to the right color is pretty much luck. Ugh.

Oh yeah . . . I had a client (in school) where that happened . . . she just wanted a light hint of highlights. I had a helper who was more enthusiastic than I in applying the highlight, and after shampooing, the poor ladies's hair didn't look too good. Had to retouch a lot of it with her original color. After all the shoutin' was over, she looked ok.

Yep, I've seen that lots of times. Not a pretty sight . . . that hydrogen peroxide is tough on hair. About all you can do for that is condition it. If you want to color it again, I'd wait a couple weeks and have a demi color applied (that's a temporary color that lasts through 6 to 10 shampoos). It'll last longer on bleached/lightened hair, though. It has the added advantage of being pretty easy on hair, too.
But if you get the notion to have it colored/bleached again, go back to the same hairdresser, 'cause she will have the information on what color combinations she used and will be able to fine tune them. If you go to someone new, they'll be guessing just like she was. Ugh.
Good luck,

SORRY, I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I had a touch up, and my hair looks like I were 18 and a natural blond. My mousy roots were showing and I needed to cover them. True, lighteneing does require condidtioning. But don't expect mircales. I wqas a blond as a boy, so lightening works for me. Better go back to your nature. Understand what you hair can do and can't do. If you were really dark, lighter highlits ain't it. Even if subtle, it ain't the way it's supposed to be. It is going to look died, I mean Dyed. Create a mystery. Let your hair ask the question, done he or doesn't he?
Go to "Trade Secrets" or a salon that carries Joico products and get some joico"moisturizer" and joico "k-pac" Alternate every three days and follow instructions on the back of the bottle. Use until hair is softer and shinier. Good Luck
