Starting growing it long about 3 years ago. 18 inches and growing.
My hair is really straight, but my wife likes it with more body and wave/curl. She uses her curling on it and it looks great.
She has suggested a body perm, so it will have the body and curl without having to resort to the curling iron.
Just looking for advice. Which is harder on the hair...Curling Irons or Perms. Hope there are guys here than can speak from experience.
She tried soft rollers on it once. But I hate sleeping in rollers and it always came out too curly and feminine looking.
I am really lucky to have a wife that loves my long hair. I brush her hair and she brushes mine.

I wonder if YOU like more curly hair or are just doing all that for your wife's pleasure..
Oops, sorry if I sounded rude, this wasn't the intention!
My advice is to quit using irons and don't do body perms, they're both damaging, as said before.
Try to make a bun after washing your hair, when it's still wet: it will take forever to dry, but it will leave nice waves!
I think you asked the right questionn there Ale..
You can also try some mouses like the one i used some time ago to get big curl , it's called Jean Louis David Sublim' boucles in France but you can find similar product everywhere.

No...not rude at all. Yes, I like it wavy with more body. I don't like it curly like Robert Plant. I would like it to be more like Barry Gibb.
You can get products intended to protect your hair from damage due to heat styling. If you use one of those, and use the least heat and time possible with the curling iron, your hair may be ok. I think that's a better choice than a perm, which is inherently damaging due to the chemical process used, which breaks hair bond in order to reform them in a new shape, but is not able to reform all of them. Basically, with care heat damage can be minimized, but damage from a perm is unavoidable.
