Hello,
I am a longtime medium-length haired guy, who let it go about a year and a half ago. I've started venturing into braids, initially, forced upon me by a girl-friend of mine. If this pic works, its a french braid by her. Im interested in trying out more involved braids and such. Can you go to hair places just have your hair braided? How much would it cost? Any suggestions?
First of all, your long hair is looking fantastic!
As to the braids, go to the top of the main page and click on links where you will find quite an assortment of ways hair can be braided. Be sure and look-up Jasons who is a member here.
best of luck to you.
I also love to try new styles especially those that involve braids. The best way is to find a friend who knows how to do them and is willing to put them into your hair and then show you how it's done.
I was fortunate enough to find someone extremely skilled at this who put many braids into my hair. The link takes you to a page that shows some of her handiwork.
Hi Zeke,
Thanks for posting the picture and you hair looks great braided and it's another great way doing your hair. We do have to resident braiding experts in Franny and Jason and I'm sure they will offer some great advice on braiding. It's jsut one of those things you have to keep practising.
Cheers,

..that will teach you the basics of French braiding, Dutch braiding, herringbone braiding and rope braiding. There are other styles in this book that you will ignore, but it's definitely worth the price of the book just to learn the skills I mentioned above.
2 years ago, I couldn't even make a French braid on myself. This book gives perfect step-by step instructions, diagrams and fingering on how to do French braiding and other braids. My daughter was given it several years ago, and I dug it up a couple of years ago to finally learn how to French braid myself. Once I learned the basics I've been able to learn many other braids as well.
Yes you can go to a stylist to have your hair braided, but just going once will likely cost at least as much as the book I suggest. The difference is that you will be able to braid for yourself. That skill, I've found is invaluable.
The book is called "A Book of Braids and Styles", by Anne Akers Johnson, and should be required reading for anyone with long hair.
