Alex again.
Just wanted to write of my appreciation of everyones comments (on the post "Oi, mophead!"), my spirit soared when reading :-)
just a question, i want to know why people grow their hair!
I'm not questioning it, i'm just very interested in why other people grow their hair...
My reason is just long hair's versatility. Ponytails, dreadlocks maybe, or just wrapping it around my face for fun (i like to pretend i'm chewbacca)
Hello !
I'm maybe an unique case but i grow it without any reason.
I CANT cut my hair and something in me make me want to grow it longer and longer !

I wanna be able to headbang and have my hair fly all over the place! Baldness just dosen't have the same stage presence as long hair when your doin a metal show...:}
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding human anatomy, but my hair grows whether I want it to or not!
Good point. Very good point. *Feels stupid*
Okay i'll rephrase it as "Why do people let their hair grow and not cut it."
Hope this makes more sense (or at least makes me sound less of an idiot) :P
makes more sens or at least makes me sound less of an idiot) :P
I was thinking of the same answer. But your not an idiot for asking that way. Words are a trap. They stink. How can one REALLY express ones feelings in words so that the hearer will TOTALLY KNOW what you felt. You can't. But I digress. The answer for me is it's part of my body. Just because there are no nerves in the hair does not detract from that. Does one not cut their little toe off ONLY because it would hurt? It makes no sense to me to cut it. Oh I played the game like a lot of people. Did 10 years in corporate retail etc. But in reflection the only times i cut it was so I could get a job and eat, pay rent etc. I don't do that any more. But a lot of people would like me to.
I've grown mine for my job as an actor.
I probably have one of the more unique reasons: I cannot recognize myself without long hair. I tell people apart by their hair, and the more, the better! It is very disconcerting and socially crippling to not be able to recognize oneself.
I am also a "born longhair" - psychologically it's a body part my mind just has to have - as is the case for quite a few users here. Since that need and how one tells people apart both come to be in the brain in early childhood, they are in my case probably connected.
Add to this that I came of age in the hippie era and that look is my identity, and "having long hair" is a given!

I've just always liked having long hair, even as a little kid. It also helps that i look good with it, and it's a real chick magnet (I'm the guy in high school who get's all the girls...could help them i'm the tallest, standing 6'6).
And i can't leave out the ability to do the windmill when playing guitar on stage...
For me as a kid I always had short hair and remember seeing quite a few people with longhair. So it was something I wanted to try and now I can't ever imagine having shorthair again.
Cheers,

Because I want to. If god intended me to have short hair he
wouldn't have given my hair the ability of grow.
Because I want to - no more, no less.
I had short hair all my life, and when I was 15 I decided to stop getting it shaved, it was like my little rebellion lol but I never let it grow long. Then over the last 18 months I started growing it but my hair was such a mess that it didn't look good and in the end I brought it back to being short (not shaved but short) then 5 months ago, I was going out for a family thing and straightened my hair to make it presentable and I loved how it looked. And since then I've kept growing it and like it more and more, so my reason for growing it is because I like the way it makes me look when longer than shorter, but I don't plan on growing it really long, anything past shoulder length would be too long for me...I think...it hasn't even all reached my chin so who knows
I love my long hair. It makes me happy, furthermore, it is very symbolic. It is who I am. Or, is it whom? Didn't we have that discussion a while back?
Some people are cutters. They like to take away, however, some like to create. People that like to cut and take away are usually bitter and they want to make others feel the same way. I choose not to join that group.
jeffrey.
Everyone else has short hair, and I am not everyone else.
Easy. Because this is what I like for myself best of all. Each to their own.

In ther 60's we wore our hair long because if differentiated us from the establishment...........The Masn if you will....It was telling them this is our world/ our generation and we dont have to follow your rules. I Have been very dissipointed that most of those same people that were part of the movement have now sold out and joined the establishment.............I will never sell out! I will never let any man tell me how I should look or how long or short my hair should be..I STILL BELIEVE IN REVOLUTION!
