Hi all,
My name is Phil, I'm 24 years old from NJ. I recently discovered MLHH; it's a shame i hadn't earlier as I've been a Longhair for 4 years, and previously a few times before that as well. I figure this posting would be a good start towards earning a full username/psswrd.
Basically I have been concerned for a few months regarding my hairline. I have had a widows peak and very minor temple recession for quite some time, as well as thick thick hair. however, recently it has definatly been thinning in the front. I'm not icing that if i part it in the middle i can see through the bangs, also my part is kind of wider and if i lift up my hair i can see lots of fine 2 inch (possibly miniturized) hairs. My hairline isnt receding like most people's because my widows peak point is very low, juvenille-hair-low, but the temples receed far back. I'm also noticing that my scalp is somewhat itchy in the front and crown; though nothing unbearable.
I scheduled a dr. appt for thursday so i will see if I can get on propecia. I don't want to use rogain because i heard its crap and i dont like the fact that it mainly produces fine hair and it goes away if you stop.
Do any of you have any suggestions on treating this or have a similar hairline (see through bangs on the sides/wide-long part)? I really appreciate the time in reading my huge initial post. Thank you for any consideration and responses, this has been eating at me for about 6 months and I feel sick and depressed on and off from it. I even cut my hair from mid back up to my chin because of this (to see if layering/taking off weight would help). I want to grow it back LONG.
Thank you all again,
Phil
PS: I put my band link in the URL spot (myspace). There are many photos of myself and my hair if any of you are interested in seeing what i mean.
I'm also noticing that my scalp is somewhat itchy in the front and crown; though nothing unbearable.
This may be a slight case of seborreic dermatitis (SD)/dandruff... some Head & Shoulders (or Nizoral) shampoo may help. Also, a little Ketoconazole ointment, used to treat SD, in the affected areas would likely help, but it is prescription only.. the MD would be able to prescribe...
Best of luck...
Thanks a lot for your input. I actually gave H&S a shot and it worked on relieving the itchyness; I'm not using the Pual Mitchell Teatree stuff which is killer. I'm more concerned about the thinness in the front and wideness in the rear parting of my hair. Hopefully its not MPB and SD like you suggested which is treatable. Everything at my work (which is where I am now) is blocked so I'll see if I can post some photos of my bangs & top view of my head for further inspection hehe.
Thanks again!

I agree as I have had similar concerns myself when dealing with essentially the same situation. I have a slightly receding hairline, moreso in the corners, but consider it a natural process for most men... One of my major concerns was that whenever I had some itchiness and flaking in the same areas where recession was/is taking place, that I made the recession worse by scratching the area - something I consciously tried not to do too much. For me, H&S and a small dab of the ketoconcazole ointment, once or twice a week, seems to be keeping it in check.
Hope this helps...
Best wishes
Yea the H&S did the trick. It still gets itchy in spots for like a second but nothing abnormal. Right now I have the temple/corner recession or widow's peak thus making my bangs see through when I part it (SUCKS!). Hopefully I can reverse this with proprecia...if I decide to try it.
Thanks alot, you were spot on with the H&S (and it doesnt smell like asfault like most dandriff shampoos!)
