Good morning everyone,
I'm going to the Dr. today to ask about Proprecia. I've read on many threads that a lot of you support Proprecia and other finesterides as a way to stop hairfall/thinning.
Basically, my hair started noticibly thinning maybe 5 months back. I'm 24 now and becoming very concerned as I love having long hair (of course). I had hair almost down to my lower back, but tried cutting it chinlength with layers back in Jan-2008. This was a decision that i made but wasnt happy to make.
Can anyone please share with me ideas about combating this thinning and/or experience with Proprecia? Do you think i can reverse the thinning & miniturization? What do you guys think about the thinness of my hair.
Here are pics I took of my hair/crown. Note that when i took the crown pic, my hair was very greasy and flat. In the photo of it back, it was a little matted down ( i tried a leave in conditioner, didnt like how it flattened my hair). The last pic of it down is how it normally looks. my crown isnt like a bald spot, but the part seems wide and long. The frontal bangs are see through, which is no fun.
Thank you all so much for any thoughts/replies.

Hi, i had the exact same pattern as you, i went to see a dermathologist and now im taking some vitamins for hair, putting minoxidil 5% on my scalp before i go to bed and taking a med called avodart. Its much much better, its not 100% perfect like it was before that begin but now no one can notice so i am happy. Talk to your Dr. about what i am taking and see what he says. Ill be waiting for news of you. Good Luck
Thanks a lot for your input & regimin Nick. I'll definately bring up avodart today and see what he says. I actually just started taking vitamins: Biotin, Vitamin C & Zinc. Which ones are you having success with?
Thanks again Nick

Im taking a food suplement called "piltone" that has vitamins, minerals and aminoacids, its indicated to revitalize hair and nails.
I have shoulder-lenght hair and before starting this treatment i heard things on school like "man, your going bald". Well, the other day a friend of mine was talking about a bald professor we have and she said "with all that hair your never going bald hum?", so as you can see it works, no one notices anything :)!
Good Luck
Haha that's good to hear Nick. I'm glad it's working for you and you also sound around my age which is good to hear also. I havn't yet had anyone notice anything, but I notice it myself which drives me insane.
My hair's about shoulder length now, I'm hopefully gonna try to get it mid-lower back again (I hope). I'm definatly gonna look up Piltone and probably give it a shot.
Thanks for the recommendations and input Nick

My hair has never been any thicker than that! If you didn't say you had noticed a change I would have said it was thin, not thinning. In particular your crown is 100% normal. However, you do have a 'widow's peak' and apparent hair loss around the temples, but all guys get the latter to some extent, just some more than others. If you are worried, see a doctor, because right now I'm not sure if you even have a problem or not.
Hey man,
What you said actually did make me feel a lot better; mainly the crown part haha since that's what worries me most. Your mane looks awesome by the way. I basically noted mainly the fact that my temple's have receeded a bit and my hair overall thinned as well. I noticed more small 1-inch hairs in the hairline which makes me nervous of miniturization so I guess that's my main worry. If i was to keep my current hairline and crown the way they are now, I'd be happy; I don't mind having a widow's peak at all. Again, it's good to hear from another long hair that mine isn't out of the ordinary and especially that my crown looks normal. Thanks for your input!

It's helped me. I am 40 now. About 6 months into growing my hair out (I was a total buzzer) I started noticing my crown area was much thinner than the rest of my hair (I have no frontal recession though) and started using Propecia and later added Rogaine. I am happy to say that it/they have made a HUGE difference and that area now looks nearly normal. I am in my 21'st month of growing and all is going well. These drugs will NOT help frontal receding hairlines however.
Just a FYI, I take the generic Propecia and cut them in half (Proscar).
