hello !! i have a little question , is it recommended to shave ur head i mean keeping no hair at all !! before growing ur hair , or starting the growing process ? or its just one of the wrong ideas that we inherited ??
Nah Tim,
If you shave your head, you'll be setting yourself back. Many of the Longhairs on this board swear by not EVER cutting it, meaning no trims along the way (though if your dead ends get bad it's probably good to trim 1/4 inch IMO to prevent snags/breakeage). But yea, if you already have some hair to start, build upon it. I wouldn't bother shaving; I've grown my hair long from a buzz/crewcut many a time.
Good luck with your growth brother,
-Phil
Some good advice there from Phil and shaving it back only sets you back further and I would just let it grow.

Why set yourself back when you want to grow it?
When I decided to grow it I haven't got a cut since, right now at 6 months and still no split end so no reason to.
I can think of one reason to shave all your hair, if you bleached or dyed it and your hair has a lot of damage.

That makes as much sense as barfing before eating.

Heheheheh... my day has been made. Thanks, Bill. :)

Yep!! No damage no cut.
Why shave your head, just wax it. Waxing your head is much better and your hair will definitely grow faster. Also, Make sure the wax is very hot, it helps stimulate the scalp.
Hope this helps
Many people with damaged hair choose this route to completely grow out new virgin hair. It's a healthy hair option if it's cared for until it grow out again, but I wouldn't do it. XD
If your hair isn't damaged beyond all repair I'd leave it.
I shaved my head completely but that was because I had a mohawk and dyed it at least 25 times over the course of the year. It was fried and detrimental towards my goal of growing it out. So chop it went and then I cried. But it's growing an inch per month now that I haven't put any chemicals in it. I'm never going to dye it anymore and just use products that help 'promote' healthy hair rather than damaging it.
Also, I'm taking these vitamins called "hair, skin and nails"; yes it's for women... but I don't care at all. It's extra Biotin (vitamin-B) to help at least create a better foundation for your hair to grow. But you take it 3 times a day and I just started yesterday, so I won't see any results (if any) for another month. I'll give you guys updates. Geez, sorry for hogging the space up here.
Peace,
Tyler
Sounds like it would just increase the time it took for you to grow it to your target length.
It would delay the growth not only in terms of total length but also in terms of lengths of hair relative to one another. In short, the hairs right above your forehead have a loooooong way to go to get to the base of a ponytail and so they will be that much delayed. And so when the back of the head hairs manage to make it into a ponytail, your front hairs would not be there yet. And so the bottom line is to never cut those front hairs in their growth much less shave them.
