Every now and then people ask about what to do with ones hair, say in wind, dust, heat, just to get it out of the way etc, etc.
Well I use a 'Buff'. Its basicly a tube of unseamed fast wicking material. In the attached picture I am wearing it as a tube. Placed round my neck and then pulled straight up and over the top to make a headscarf/bandanna. It doesn't damage your hair, it can be kept in your pocket, its great fro guys that have not quite got to the ponytail stage and need to control the hair.
They can be worn as shown, as a bandana (like Bill would sport), a scrunchie, a beanie and more!!
Although I am fairly happy with my tail, this my preferred method of hair control, mainly because its different.
Check 'em out: http://www.buffwear.co.uk/pages/technical/ways-to-wear.php
Cheers everyone.

Dave, I checked out their site and they look great!
While they are a 'tad' more expensive than bandanas, they do boast the breathability and need and, without having to tie them, I lose the risk of snagging a few curls into a knot.
I'll check some out at my local Harley Davidson outfit; the only authorized dealer in town. I'll be sure to post my results.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Hey Dave...great pics! I'm going straight to that website...this could be what I'm looking for. Been really crazed lately with my hair. It easily fits into a ponytail which is a good thing. I HATE the way it looks unrestrained...seems like a continuation of the awkward phase...I hope within 6 months that changes. (dont' tell anyone, but I have had those horrific thoughts of...dare I say it...cutting it all off lately...) But happily I have motivators like you to keep me grounded...
Hope yer doin well buddy,
Max
Don't give in to the scissors Max, we have lost too many good men recently to cutting. Maybe a Buff could be the answer for you - inject a bit of fun!!
Cheers buddy, Dave
Check out the sizing page. The upper limit of head sizes listed is 62 cm. I just measured my own head. It's 62 cm measured according to their instructions. If my hair were in a pony tail, it would be slightly more than that.
With a normal bandanna, if I tie opposite corners together, I have to use just the very ends of the corners. Then, I can't get one of the remaining corners into the knot unless I allow the bandanna to ride up on my forehead.
Sizing Page
These are super stretchy though Victor, but only width ways, they don't stretch length ways, so they always keep their shape. In one of the videos the girl puts her whole body through one just to demonstrate the elasticity.

Thanks. I guess I should view the videos.
Very Cool, I wear all kinds of bandannas, head wraps. ponytail holders, stocking caps etc.......I'm gonna try this one out ASAP
Hey Dave I've never seen such a device for ones hair.I mean I've seen people tie bandannas over their heads but I've never mastered the technique of tying them correctly. This item not only looks cool but looks easy to put on quickly on the run.I'll look up that site and definately get one as I like the look. Its cool to be able to do something other than a ponytail to restrain ones hair. Thanks Dave .... you nutty one!LOL
Cheers Dave
This doesn't come from the original website but that's it; I use it in winter, to keep my ears warm!
That looks damn cool Ale!
I might have to grow me one of the those long pointy beards.
Cheers Dave
Thanks Dave!
And well, give the long beard a try, it's worth it!
Cheers

Looks cool Dave! I've seen those "buffs" around here before. Most of the guys that wear here them are usually Jamaican or Hatian and have long dreadlocks.
Most around here are traveller and hippie types Chris, although they are popular among bikers, rock climbers, and you know those 'edgy, no fear types' LOL!
Cheers Dave
Hey,
Beanies are so underrated!!!
Tc and good post =D
Aubrey
Looks like a pretty useful garment...perhaps I should look into getting one...
I've got several different buffs. You can find them at REI and other outdoor stores. I really like wearing them under (bike|ski|climbing) helmets and hats to keep my wispies under control and wick away sweat. And when it's a little cool out I just pull the edges down over my ears to keep them warm.
So far they're the most comfortable headcovering I've ever found. I have a large head and can't comfortably tie a bandanna around my head, and other styles of headcovering are either too loose (falling off) or too tight (giving me a head or earache).
They're also really handy to keep a braid neat while sleeping. I prefer to put my hair into a braid at the beginning of a backpacking trip and generally don't take it out until I'm back home again. Wearing the buff at night not only keeps my head warm, it also helps to avoid the frizzfest in the morning.
Hi Dianyla, great to see you and Trolleypup are fans too, like you said they are so comfortable and kind to one's hair. The only downside is the huge choice, at the moment I only have two, but I could quite easily buy ten or so!!
have you ever tried the 'coolmax' variety? I was going to get one for summer and wondered if they actually make the head too hot and sweaty.
Cheers, Dave
Dave, read your post about the buff and I heard the Doxology!
Can't wait to purchase one. Thanks a million.
