I shed a hair last night, and it seemed like a long one. I happened to have the tape measure handy so I measured it at 33 inches. I think it might be the longest hair I ever shed. That would mean I'm actually a bit slower than average growth rate--I should be slightly more than 36 inches now. It was a good hair, wavy, and 31 inches when not stretched out.
That is a very long hair strand Steve. Save it in a ziploc bag for future reference and comparison. Was the tip intact or blunt and broken? It is very likely that you have some that are even longer.
I just saved a fine strand of blond hair with a broken tip and it is 45 1/4" long. I also have a saved strand that is coarse and white and it is 44 3/4" long, with a split end tip. God only knows how long it would grow if it did not break. My guess is 55 inches and calf length.

The root ball is intact. It's noticeably thicker near the root, and thinner at the end. The end is abrupt but not damaged. It's possible that this is a relic of my last haircut. It's an epic hair, but it'll probably meet the fate of all my others and be swept up with a broom, and sent to the local landfill where it will become part of a toxic coal deposit eons from now. I'm just not interested in doing anything else with it.
