March 19! First day of spring! Time for pics of longhairs and wildflowers!
Spring comes on March 20 east of the Rockies, so get out tomorrow and let's see some first day of spring pics!
Bill
If I take pictures on the first day of Spring tomorrow, all you guys will see is snow, ha ha.
Hey, longhairs in snow are awesome too! Whatever you find out your door on equinox day, post it. We can get a snapshot of what we all are experiencing on that day. We can see the arrival of spring in all its glorious stages!
Bill
All right, I will take a photo of the woods for you all to show you what the North's spring is like.
Hi Bill very cool pic of the flowers and cool backdrop. Most importantly is your hair as a compliment:)Good thing spring wasn't today on the east coast as it just rained all day but fortunately tomorrow is supposed to be nice. We'll see!LOL Anyway thanks for the awesome pic.Take care my friend.
Mark
Hey Bill
Great photo of you with sf in the background and the tall grasses and wildflowers.
Looks as if you are about 2 weeks ahead of us up here..........and tomorrow I have the distinct pleasure(?) of the 1st mowing of the lawn for the year. Many trees are in full blossom as all is springing back to life.
Thanks for sharing this photo with all of us.
Happy Spring :-)
Justin~
Bill, you are the undisputed KING of SPRING wildflower pics, --- nobody can top you in that department!!! I can't wait to see you and your great hair & beard flowing amongst the Echium, Lupine, and Calif. Poppies this year!
I just finished planting a rose garden over in Castro Valley on the property where I cook, --- and in this case, I had TOTAL free reign of choice of rose varieties, the rose garden's design, and the companion plants to plant w/ them, etc.... SO, if you don't mind waiting until mid-May or so,, when roses hit their peak of bloom in No. Calif., I'll send you my Spring pics then!
- Ken
The echium is blooming heartily already on the hillsides lower down, enough so that it is swarming with bees. Light blue lupine and orange poppies are blooming on that very hill, but on the south side. I was on the north side, down below the tour bus lot at Christmas Tree Point. The photo above is a close-up of one of the Douglas irises.
I am definitely looking forward to your rose pics!
Bill
Is that Mount Olympus?
The photo was taken on the north shoulder of the north Twin Peak, looking northwest. Mt. Olympus is off to the left of the photo about two blocks beyond the dark clump of trees that you can see along the photo's left border. That dark clump is Buena Vista Park. I have marked the place the photo was taken with a lavender "A" and Mt. Olympus with a lavender "B".
The large dark rectangular building in the distance that appears to be the tallest building is the old Bank of America headquarters at 555 California.
Too bad we had fog today - well, we ARE noted for that - because sometimes you can see Alcatraz and all kinds of cool stuff at the horizon from there.
Bill
I love this picture Bill, there is almost a halfway line dividing man and nature. Its a great shot. Cheers Dave
Thanks, Dave! Nature provided the grass, the flowers, and the beard and mane. The buildings are a non-native invasive species that established itself due to the Gold Rush. [grin]
Bill
Hi Bill,
What a fabulous photo, and the scenery and view are truly awesome! Hopefully, in just over a year, I will see some of this scenery with my own eyes. Sadly, in Nova Scotia today, we are expecring dreezing rain, chaging to rain, to there won't be any picturse worth raking.
The beard is looking great too!
Take care,
David
"we are expecring dreezing rain, chaging to rain, to there won't be any picturse worth raking."
David, have you been on the beers?
Hi Dave,
Not beers (if only, if only), but bleary-eyed at 5:30AM!
David
Thanks! Sometimes now I seem to be more beard than mane!
I did not notice what Dave saw - I guess I don't look for typing mistakes - but now that he pointed it out, like him, I am wondering what you took a toke of right after typing the name of your province! [wink]
Above are some more wildflowers seen on that hillside yesterday, to give you something groovier to trip to than "dreezing rain".
Bill
Hi Bill!
Thank you for the laugh, and I do admit that early this morning, at 5:30 AM, my home town was not Halifax, but "typo city"!
David
(I DO need to take a typing course.lol!)
(great picture, too!)
That is a wonderful picture! Thank you for sharing it with us :)
I'll see what I can fanagle out of Antesse later today to get some pictures on our Ostara/Holy Thursday dinner...but I do have a few pictures from this last sunday and not much has changed...from my favorite nature place in Milwaukee, Seven Bridges at Grant Park...
Some of the hills down by the creek:
The first green!
the lakefront (Lake Michigan)
view from the final bridge before the lakefront
entrance to Seven Bridges (and Antesse)
the message on the exit of that same bridge
However, as those are taken March 16th so not quite spring yet, I shall see what I can get tommorow, even if its just my courtyard :P
and ugh, either I'm tired and my HTML skillz are lacking or Flickr hates me but the two best pictures are not working for some reason....I have a bunch of art photos on my Flickr site though and its public so I'll just give you guys the linka nd you can browse if you wish... (mind you, a lot of it is not long hair related and just various pictures of art and also that which I claim to be a social life, but all of it is safe for work, if mods have and issue with it not all being long hair related feel free to delete)

Beautiful picture Bill I was wondering where you were until I read further down the thread.
Spring may not arrive in Wisconsin until August. Ha!
Kevin
In mid-April, coastal California wildflowers are at their peak. Then we see millions of flowers. Even all the weeds are covered in flowers. Whole hillsides are covered in flowers. You will be here at our most beautiful time of year!
All I can say to anyone who is out there today is, "You ain't seen nothin' yet."
Bill
Great picture, although it isn't really spring weather.
Over here in holland it's raining right now and the predictions for the weekend are even worse with snow.
I shot some pictures in my garden today, like they predicted it is snowing. First one is an overwiew:
Haven't figured out how to post multiple pictures in one post so here's the next. (also could't find how to do it in the faq)
There are several sites around the web with basic html instructions, in case you want to get even fancier with your posts. Simple Googling should yield more help than you know what to do with.
The last one, not really how you imagine spring.
Should have been this one, sorry for the mistake.
I don't have any longhairs in the picture, but it was taken by a longhair.
Beautiful!
Bill
Ah Bill you're so lucky. All we have here in NJ is 30 degree weather, rain & the loveley "wintery mix" that all the weather channels love to say. I can't wait until it gets warmer over here.
Bill, you lucky, lucky man......you have it all.
Living in S.F., beautiful weather, and a sweet beard to boot!!!!!
peace

Thanks, Clayton!
And add to that list, "no job!" Yup! RETIRED! More time to just sit around and watch the hair grow. [wink]
Bill
Bill;
I took this today (Thursday) near Badwater.....The Death Valley Flower show is a bit early this year, but spectacular. The yellows are starting to fade and the blues are coming in.
I have left the photo "sans White Tail".....I just couldn't compete with your poesy poses. HA!
WWT
Great pic, Walter! I've got some DV pics I took a few years ago while passing through there. Nice place!

Now THAT is a beautiful picture - the blues, the whites, and the violet of the flowers!
Wow!!! What a beautiful picture.
Here is my addition Bill. Wildflowers are hard to find on my bike route. These are sort of wild growing near the road.
There is an image from the top of Grizzly Peak at about 1650 feet above sea level. San Francisco is in the distance.
The image of me is actually from a winter rain escape. I take my bike in my car to rain free sites for a dry ride. Guess where it is guys. Hint: It is north of SF.
Scott
Not around here. It was too darn cold. Raw east wind and pouring rain. (it was snow not far from here.)
This is where I was yesterday [the first full day of Spring] and some of the things I saw... [hope this works!]

Sorry 'bout the oversized pics. Forgot to resize them... BTW, this was at Half Moon Bay, California.
