Hey dudes. Last week i decided to dreadlock my mid back length curly hair. I used a backcombing and wax method, reccomended on most of the dreadlock sites. I like the dreads in alot and was told i suited them alot. However , last night i came accross a forum outwith the sellers of the products, wax etc. On here there was nothing but horror stories about the damage wax causes, as it never really goes away from the lock and builds up indside causing mold. Also it is said to prevent the hair from truly locking and rather just sticking together.
Im completely confused now as to wether to just stop using the wax and keep going, or to try and remove the locks- at this early stage is should be fairly easy to although a bit time consuming- heavy conditioniner basically takes them out.
So i can can keep going, take them out and try again without wax, or take them out and go back to being a longhair. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Im posting here as oposed to a dread forum as i find the people here really helpful.
Thanks
Just go to www.knottyboy.com, man. Nothing to worry about.
Knotty Boy Dread Products
Knottyboy is where i initialy went to and got my starter kit, wax , shampoo etc, and followed there 'how to dread' methods. But its from my recent research ive discovered , that wax may not be good at all.
Hey,
I think you can dread without wax, but it will take more time to your hair to look like dread. I've seen some people doing their dreadlocks without wax, and finally it was good looking.
Keep in mind that, wax or not, the dreading process will damage your hair : knots, hair breaks, etc.
If you already began the process with wax, It will be useless to undo your dreads and re-do after without wax. Just let it be :)
Good luck
Vivien
Hey Vivien thanks,
Yeah if i was taking them out i think id just go back to having normal hair again, but my only concern with this is how damaged will my hair be, and will it be repairable with time and care?
thanks
Hey,
Hi,
I think it's repairable if you want to take them out and if you do it now. Here, we have a man, ThatBallGuy if I remember, who un-did his dreadlocks after some years, and in the end, it looks fine. Search his posts.
Bye
