Ok so I've been growing my hair out since jan 2006 (with the hopes of growing it down to my elbows) and for the most part it's been clear sailing, no problems what so ever. But recently I've noticed that at the top of my head I have a bunch of frizzy short hairs that are popping out everywhere. They look dumb cause the rest of my hair is really straight. Anywho, I'm just wondering what might be causing this and how I can correct/prevent future ones from forming.
Thanks!
I recall other members posting similar topics, and if I recall correctly, these short hairs you are seeing on top of your head are simply growing back in after your hair sheds. Do not cut or trim these hairs under any circumstances!
If you don't mind using a bit of gel, a pea sized amount should probably be enough to smooth down any particularly unruly small hairs. I get these same things sometimes, and they're more noticeable on certain days than others, but you mainly just have to live with them. Peace.

Thanks a lot!
Well, you definitely don't want to "prevent" it! That's your new growth!
Don't feel self conscious about it. It's just part of having long hair.
You can slick 'em down with various products if it really bothers you.
I mean "since jan 2007" not that that was a big deal to correct...
Yeah dude..those are all new.....I call them 'baby-hairs'
Like the rest of them said, don't cut them, by all means don't..
I have some of these, and they are completely normal, every long-hair will eventually get them...
By personal opinion, now please back me up someone, but i would go against using too much gel or hair-spray, especially on roots...using too much will make your hair oily, and with a hair-spray/mousse, will dry it out becuase of alcohol levels, etc..which damages these hairs...I use a spray on conditioner on these, which smoothes those suckers out, and blends them in with the longer hairs...
good luck,
peace,

They are most likely broken hairs. You can minimize them by taking very good care of your hair and being careful with it. Go easy on it while detangling.
Other posters are correct. I have a bunch of these sticking up after washing and drying. I prefer to use Jojoba oil on them. The oil is expensive in terms of $/oz, but one drop can make a difference. A 4 oz. bottle could easily last you a year if you use it just for that.
