i got a trim back at 10 months of growth and use to get a trim every 4 months but now since im over a little bit of a year growing it out, would it be ok to do a trim every 6 months or so or do i still need to do every 4 months?
Trims are not always necesary , i haven't got one for 2 years and exept some split end and some dry end my hair is fine.
Just get a trim when you need one. Don't worry about a specific schedule. I was thinking of getting one in May, after my 2-year mark, but I think I'll wait. =)
However, if you do insist, then yes, you can wait and do every 6 months and it'll be fine. See you around, Mark...

I haven't had a trim in nearly two years, and I have no split ends and no tangling problems. Thus, no trim needed for me.
I trimmed at 2 years. Be another 2 years before my 2ed trim. Do what YOU want.
There is no rule which says you can't get a trim every day if that is somebodys wish. Always remember, especially in the beginning stages that the more trims you get, the longer time it will be before reaching long hair. But if you are not in a hurry to get there..............
i think ill just get a slight trim every 6 months now instead of 4 since im at a years growth now and its getting long finally :)
Try not getting a trim at all aee what happens.

Hi Mark,
The best advice I can offer is to just let it grow.
Cheers,

First trim at 15 3/4 months, hair healthy and after the 1/4 trim, no split ends, (very few to start with). Don't sweat it and trim it only when it is buggin' you. If you're like me, you're not going to make commercials for product anyway and you don't have time to worry about perfection.
for now Mark. Unless you have damaged ends, you can just let
it grow for now. I grew my hair out from a rat tail, and I did
not bother with trims. Remember that every inch you get
trimmed sets you back 2 months. Hair that is in good condition
can go for years without trims. I do realize that you may want
to maintain it at a certain length in which case trims are needed to keep that desired length. If you are going for full
length it is best to just let it grow and flow.

i mean my hair isnt damaged i was just worried about getting trims within a certain time limit but if it wont hurt ill just get a trim every 6 months and when i hit 2 years of growth from then on ill probably just get at trim once a year after that :)
As you said it's not damaged at all so just let it grow then. Eh trimmers!
Cheers,

If there's no damage or other compelling reasons to get a trim
why bother. It seems silly to get a trim just because it's 6 months have gone by. When I began growing my hair I got trimms because I fell victim to the myth that it made your hair grow faster. I had no MLHH to get advice from back then, only the stylists who wanted me to come back so they could make money.
So you'll get a trim because it won't hurt if you do in 6 months,
ok fine it's your hair. Your throwing money away in my opinion and you won't have a really long mane for a really long time. So bottom line you saked a question and got answers and advice wheather you take that advice is your business.
Good luck on your longhair journey.
Kevin
Hi Mark,
Actually if your hair isn't damaged in any way I'd just let it grow until further notice. That is when you reach your goal length.Too much trimming will only set you back from getting that really long hair.Just my thoughts.
Mark
For nearly six years I grew out my hair without a single trim.
What happened: I had NO split ends and my hair evened out nicely all by itself.
Conclusion: If your hair goal is all about achieving the longest length possible in the shortest amount of time then trims are not necessary (UNLESS you have problems
with your hair: slit ends, perm damage, coloring-bleaching damage, etc.)
Reasons FOR Trims: On the other hand, if your hair goal is NOT about growing your hair as long as possible in the shortest amount of time, then trims (and how often you get them) are entirely up to you. For instance, perhaps your goal is to have shoulder length hair that is the same length all around. Well, over time, trims will help you to achieve this more quickly. Or maybe you have colored or otherwise damaged hair that needs to be eliminated. Then small, frequent trims will help you to to this gradually, over time.
Good Luck!
I got my hair cut to shoulder length about a month and a half ago and I already have many split ends. And, at least to me, I take good care of my hair. It's prone to splits. Everyone's different.
Hi Mark,
I trimmed once at 27 months and that was because I began to see an increasing number of split-ends. Other than that, I would have waited even longer.
If you're not experiencing any problems, I'd say run away from the shears!

I got mine trimmed every 12 weeks while growing it (I now get a trim every 6 weeks). My stylist only trimmed about a 1/8 inch each time. It kept it looking nice and also avoided any lasting problems with split ends.
Think about this....When a woman grows her hair, does she go years without trimming it? (The answer is no.) And on average, does a man's or a woman's hair look better during the growing process?
Do you only care about length regardless of how it looks? If so, then just grow it.
Do you want quality along with length? If so, then get trims.
My motto has always been quality first, then length.
Mine reached my waist in 3.5 years with trimming.
