Hey dudes,
I brushed out dreadlocks after having them in for 2 weeks (found out bad info about products i used)the werent that knotted but unfortunately during the washing with conditioner, the knots from the top and bottom merged into solid matta in the middle of the hair, really solid and hard to touch. Anyway i decided id still try to get them out as opposed to cut. So it took my very patient friend seven hours to get them out. I lost quite a lot of hair- I dont know how much was natural as with ll the wax i had in the locks the natural daily hair fallout would be trapped inside the locks. But there was also alot broken off and some knots were too tight and had to be ripped off taking whole curls with them, there was also inevitably some hairs torn ouyt at the root, although i dont know how much. my scalp is pretty tender. Its pretty much like ive been in a fight and alot of hair has been torn off.
So now my hair actually doesnt look bad, ve lost a bit of length and and some thickness tho. I think it looks ok due to how healthy and thick it was before, it was rediculously thick.
So now i have the job of repair and regrowth and im looking for suggestions. So far i will follow these measures-
Be very gentle with it- no brushing or combing, only finger detangling, scalp massage, reduce the frequency of washing to once a week for a while, good supplement regime, good nutrition. Getting s much blood to my scalp as i can, which is easy- Im a gymnast and spend most of the day upside down LOL.
If there is any other ideas to anything i should be doing i would greatly appreciate them? Or any supplement/ products that may help?
Also I wanted to know if there is would be any long term damage to the scalp and hair folicle itself? and if so is there a way to heal that?
I also thought about keeping it the same length for a while by getting a trim every 2 months or so to allow it to re-thicken again, im not to concerned with the length at the moment, but id like to get it as thick as i can as fast as i can. Then begin to let it lengthen again. At the moment its bottom of the shoulder blade level, with some surviving to mid back.
I beleive i can heal it with some time care and effort, but any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.
This has really taught me to both care for my hair and be very grateful for it and not to take it for granted. I learned that lesson the hard way though!
Many thanks
Kelso
To help stimulate the blood flow, do gentle scalp massage, with the pads of your fingers. You should be doing this when you do the washing and detangling, but even at odd times during the day.
Good luck with the recovery. Sometimes damage is too much to just let it grow out.
I would look for a product that advertises itself for damaged hair. I personally use a Pantene Pro-V conditioner. Check out the link for a variation of that conditioner that might be good for you.
I wouldn't think so. Just be gentle with it for a while, as you suggested.
That sounds like the best plan to me. Also, search and destroy any damaged/split ends if you have the time.
