Hey Everyone,
Boy it is great to be back on the board, even as a new guy here! I just got back from a great trip to Reno/Tahoe for a few days, a great way to get out of the valley for a while ;)...
Anywho, I was going to ask/state an issue I have with my hair, So I guess I'll begin...
As I have mentioned, my hair is pretty thick, thick (mostly) straight hair, and for the longest time I've had the issue with it being really 'poofy' like in the back, which is weird, because for instance, If I put the upper layer of the hair into a 'tail', you can notice that the lower layers of my hair are nice, flat, and sleek...but the top layers do seem to have a 'poofy' like effect to it.
(to note, this has nothing to do with the awkward phase, for I have pretty much left that a while back, so I dont deal with that 'flip' issue, etc)
I have gone out and tried different shampoos/conditioners,
spray -on conditioners, and many other hair products (besides hair-spray and gel, which I use rarely, mostly on occasion, for I dislike them)...I have tried to change my schedule on when I shampoo/condition, and nothing has helped so far. Humidity is not an issue contributing to this, for I live in California :P...
I do wish my hair (mostly in the back) with this issue could be resolved somehow, so all my hair could be flat and smooth like the lower layers of my hair. My hair seems fine if I do use a hair-dryer and a flat brush on these areas, as it makes it all blend in well, but I don't like to do this all the time, it takes time into doing so, and I like my natural hair without damage :)
Is there anyone on here with the same hair type/texture that has the same issue, and how do you cope with it?...I love my hair, but I wish this poof issue can dissolve away forever..lol
Thanks Everyone :)
Peace,
-DDude
Do you have satin pillowcases or standard cloth ones? If you have long hair and sleep on cloth pillowcases, often that can dry your hair out (at least from what I've found). I tend to have the same problem, even if my hair is a bit wavy.
I use hair oil every other day or so to correct the dryness that naturally occurs with my hair type, and it tends to fix the extra dryness that happens with the pillowcases (yes, I'm too cheap to buy the satin ones... don't judge me =D ). Also, I often tie my hair into a tail while sleeping. Some guys also braid theirs, and this can help remedy that.
Just one idea. Hope that helps.

I think James has some good suggestions =D. It can be really hard dealing with hair. lol Seems like your hair never really wants to help ya out. I have to say, that sometimes you just can't fight the nature of your hair. Hair oils can really make a difference. I love to use hair masks and sometimes I use the anti-frizz serums. At least by using great conditioning products can reduce damage that hair styling can create. I don't blow dry, but I do use the straightening iron (Chi). I love that iron, works wonders.
