Hello, my name is Joe and I am 20 years old.
I was wondering if anyone in here knows about damaged hair and how to treat it. I've been growing my hair out for about 24 months (2 years) It's a little past my shoulders about 1/3 down my back. My hair in the back is a very dry. It seems like it's brittle about an inch from the ends. Is there anyone who could help me regain the life back to my hair? If i trimmed my ends off were they seem damaged, would it help undamage my hair?
if you've been mistreating your hair (straightening, bleaching etc.) it's best to get rid of the damage. But if this damage comes naturally, you'll need a good conditioner to use every day.
I have thin hair and it doesn't grow very long very well. I am also known for hairdying, as I don't like my normal "mousey" brown. I've been both various shades of reds, and blond.
This is what works for me...
ALWAYS use a very good, (preferably gay) hairdresser. Mine loves to try and convince me to chop it all off, but he does a great cut, AND he's amazing at blending several reds to make them look right/natural.
I have him cut it whenever it gets dyed. It looks a lot better after it's cut.
I was using very expensive BIOLAGE, and gave it up in favor of $1 White Rain and/or Strawberry Suave (the kind I used to wash my ferret with), and it's just as good; maybe better.
and I always use anti-static brushes.
Hask-Placenta leave in conditioning treatment, once a week or so, works great.
Biolage seems good except it's expensive. It's not too rough on your hair. There's a couple of types that I use when needed. And I don't get much dandruff. but keep in mind my hair is not that long yet.
Thanks Carla!I appreciate your response. I did dye it about 5 months ago my hair was a lighter brown color and i dyed to a darker brown. Yes i'm going to get about an inch trimmed off this week. I have also been using that Pantene Pro-V restoratives shampoo and conditioner. It's been working good and helping out a lot.
Hello there!
Carla gave you some good advice but I do have to warn you about Pantene. This brand was my favorite for a long time but I stopped using it because it was really frying my hair!
Pantene seems very good in the first months you use it. After that, your hair starts getting really dry and brittle. I have researched a little and a lot of people complain about this. Of course it doesn't mean it would happen with everyone but I just tought I should tell you. Generally hairdresser products are good. I am currently using Elvive and I like it a lot. It's close to hairdressing products since it's from L'Oreal.
I wish you the best luck with your hair! I also think that 24 months is a good time to trim it. I trimmed mineat 24 months too for the first time...
Good luck!
What? I never knew that about pantene! What shampoos should i use now? what kind do you use? do you have any advice of what types of shampoos that i should use?
thanks anyways man! Thanks for the heads up. If noone told me i would have still been using it. I never blow dry it. I never straighten it. My hair is all naturall feeling.
Thanks again David! and happy growing!
Well like he says it isn't the case with everybody. I use Pantene
and have for years and my hair is ok.
Garnier is good among others.
Kevin
I agree about the warning from João. I made the same experience with pantene products. I still use them from time to time but I always use other products in between.
I had seriously damaged hair and I had a trim of only 1 inch and started applying some oils after every wash. Now my hair is in a very good condition again.
Cheers...
You could try trimming the ends; I did that and it seemed to help me. If you only take off an inch or two it's not the end of the world; in about 6 months you'll be back to where you were. the ends are where all the damaged hair is from the early days before you knew how to care for your hair. by the way your hair looks great to me so maybe you think your problem is worse than it is? There's a great book you should buy by Paula Begoun called Don't Go Shopping For Hair Care Products Without Me. buy it from amazon and start reading it. lots of answers to your questions about products in there.
