TO TRIM OR NOT TO TRIM
Ok guys I'm really having an issue with this, it's on my mind daily. I know its probably been discussed in a million threads. I tried searching the archives with no luck. Maybe I was searching the wrong way
I read on a long hair site NEVER TRIM! It's a myth it doesnt help it to grow faster. I even question if it helps the ends. Is it possible that they return to their raggedy state after a while?
I mean I have been adamently agaist going near my hair with a sissors for years, but if it will help the overall look of my hair I guess I have to consider it. Thoughts please
Please forgive me if this sounds like a broken record but it's really bothering me.

The only way to win, is not to play. Trim lightly ONLY to remove split or damaged ends. Trimming doesn't make it grow quicker.
Todd, I hear you brother, I am going through exactly the same dilema. I am 27 months with no trims BUT, the last few days I have been getting knots near the ends - tight hard ones, also some of the hair ends are bent at right angles almost, and worst of all I found a handful of split ends today too.
I think it may be time for me to have a light trim (maybe a centimetre) and get rid of the damage. If it means I have a healthier mop that will grow in good condition for years to come then thats what I will do.
Any comments anyone?

I have been experimenting with some good conditioners such as neutrogena triple moisture, both the leave in and wash out kind and also putting a little olive oil on the ends. It makes things much better

Cheers Todd, I might check out that Neutrogena conditioner.
It must be hell de-tangling after a sweaty gig, but hey the life of a rock star eh? someones' gotta do it ;-)
Thanks and keep rocka rollin'

Hey Dave, yeah, a small trim of the ends will do the trick. I had a slight trim about a 10 weeks ago and it make a big difference. Getting those broken ends off is the best thing. i know it's scary, scissors and all, but it's worth it.
Have a good week!
Max
Thanks Max, you're a star, you have a great week also.

Hey Nuttidave,
I do believe a small trim will be of great benefit to you. I know a lot of guys are against all trims, but if it makes you a bit happier about your hair, improves the managability(sp?) and you dont mind the offset in the time to reach your goal length (If you have one)....then by all means, a centimeter is nothing to worry about.

Hi Todd,
Well I've not trimmed my hair is about 5 years and I wouldn't it looks that raggidy at the ends but I have thick wavy hair so you don't that nice fine line. Okay I have a few slip ends but I don't lose any sleep over it.
I know this topic keeps come up again and again and it's up to you if you think you need to trim.
Cheers,

Hey Todd, a slight trim...no more than an inch or 3/4 of an inch will greatly improve the overall look of your hair from what you are saying. Then just be extra careful when brushing/combing. I had a slight trim a few months ago of about 1 inch, mostly in the back to get rid of those pesky splits and it seems to have helped. Just make sure that you trust the person doing the cutting. :-)
Cheers,
Max
Oh we know what you mean. In addition to having to think about
The looming economic crisis, the millions with no health
insurance, the oppressed in Tibet, the murdering and rape in
Darfur, we have the dilema of trims and when to get them. My
suggestion is it's your hair trim it if you feel you need to.

Got knots? Mane and Tail detangler. Inexpensive conditioner works well too. Had my first trim after 15 months, about 1/4 inch. I think that the improved look is psycological, I see what I want to see.
