Hey everyone! I haven't really been an active poster, but have made a few posts in the past, and continued to lurk/view the updates of others when I've gotten the chance. I've been extremely busy with college, although I just finished my Junior year - good riddance to that!
I'm currently studying abroad in Japan and there have been lots of pictures taken of me and my other fellow exchange students, and I'm really satisfied to see that my hair is indeed growing, and I'm starting to look more decisively like "me". I had a fear that every picture of me during my studies would just remind me of the "bad haircut", but so far they've turned out quite well. :)
Anyways, I'll give a quick refresher on my hair situation.
Bad haircut on October 2nd, 2007.
The stylist cut off way more than I wanted, and the right side was about twice as short the right side than the left side, and extremely thin.
I've been growing it for the past six months (with one minor, minor restyling in January). I shed an abnormal amount of hair on the right side of my head (the already thin side), and don't know why this is - however, I'm not going bald, and it doesn't look all that bad, considering all the hair that falls out. It peaked at about 300 hairs daily, but has since gone back down to a more "normal" number of shed hairs.
My short term goal is to get it back to my "classic" style, which looks something like this.
There are no layers in this picture, and it is not straightened either. Once my hair is long enough to achieve this style (it's boring, I know, but functional), I'll probably just let it grow for a few years. (The aforementioned picture is of 15 months of growth after a shaved head, and 4 trims).
Anyways, here is what it currently looks like when straightened. Note: I would post a picture of it not straightened, but whenever my hair is not straightened I avoid cameras and/or wear a hat. Another note: I use a ceramic straightener, and some people on this board informed me it's actually not bad for hair, so I'm avoiding damaging it.
From the front.
Once more.
From the bad side (right side).
From the back (sorry it's a bad view, the only pic I had).
So what's my growth rate? Average? Slow? Fast?
Any estimates of how many more months until I achieve my short term goal?
Any comments/encouragement/advice is greatly appreciated!
Hope everyone is having a great spring!! :) :) :)
Nice update Tim. You look to be at a normal growth rate and as
far as I can tell your 8 months to a year getting to your classic
style.
it's cool that you have the chance to go to Japan. I lifetime experiece I'm sure. You look like your having fun as well.
Take Care
Kevin
Thank you so much, your kind words are most appreciated!!
Hey Tim
Thats quite a nice update of your hair history.I do think your classic pic looked great on you as I cannot imagine why you ever gave up on that in the first place.Regardless at least you are on your way back to some awesome long hair.Yea you have to beware of going to stylists of an unknown quantity as the results can be really bad as you know now.Anyway your growth rate looks to be average and by your one year anniversary it will be fantastic. Here is my favorite of your current pics. Thanks for the update.

Yeah, I learned a valuable lesson in October, and don't plan on ever getting a "true" haircut again. Sadly, the length it is now is essentially how I asked for it cut in October, but the stylist just went scissor happy. But like I mentioned in the other post, that's life I guess, and at least it's growing back. Thank you so very much for all your kind words and encouragement, it is greatly appreciated. :)
Looks like you're above average for your growth rate, Tim. That is some great progress for only six months, so you can expect to have some awesome length at your 12, 18, and 24 month marks, respectively. Keep us posted on your progress, and stay well. =)

Thank you so much for your kind words! :)
First that I would like to say, Tim, is that you hair looks so much better grown out that that cut you had back in late '07. That's in my personal opinion.
Cheers, and keep it growing..

100% agreed, and thank you! I am never letting that happen ever again. And for the record, the way it looks now is essentially how I asked the stylist to cut it, with the exception of the unevenness...but that's life, I suppose. At least it's growing back :)
Tim, Looks great, thanks for sharing. Keep it growin' n flowin' What is your goal length?
peace, jonalbear
Thank you so much!! I think my long term goal is shoulder length, although I'm not entirely sure...I'll just keep letting this grow and decide along the way, I suppose :)
Forget all the stylings and trims,Don't even think about it for about 3 years, then lets hear how you are doing. I'm not saying dont continue to post, Im saying stop fixating on your hair so much, leave it alone and let it grow. I'm sure you will be a happy camper.
Cheers,
Todd B. :)
Hi Tim,
Thank you for sharing such a fabulous update! Your hair grows fast an appears in excellent condition!
As for the use of straighteners, I agree that the ceramic ones are better than others. If your goal is hair of only shoulder length or so, the use of straighteners is probably not that big an issue. If you want super long hair though, it is raelly best to avoid straighteners, since even the best ones do cause damage. The natuarl way is always better, and the awkward phase will be over before you know it!
Keep it growing,
David
Your hair is awesome and I like your clothing a lot too.
Looks amazing, and just fine to me!
Growth rate looks standard.
Keep it up!
Shawn
Your hair is recovering very well from the bad hair cut.
Just give it time and it will look even better then it looks right now :)
Awesome growth, Tim B. The Hair is styled well and it really suits your seemingly adventurous spirit. It looks good! Keep it up.

PS is the Zelda game on the Wii any good? I'm thinking of getting it for the summer.
Thank you so much!
As for Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess...it's pretty good, but it didn't really blow me away like past Zelda games did. It had kinda a "been there/done that" feeling after playing all the others, but if you're a Zelda/Nintendo fan it certainly won't disappoint. Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are amazing games for the Wii as well.
Hey, you're doing really well for six months! Wow! And it's looking good. My right side is my bad side too, but don't worry, it starts to shape up. Did you start from a short cut?
