I've been growing my hair out for few months now, something around half a year, and I'm now really frustrated. I was hoping that my hair will stop standing out and sticks to head once it grows longer, but it still doesnt want to!
When I realised (after washing it) that it stands out and gets curly, I tried pouring some water on it and leaving it close to head in hope that it stays straight and close to head, but noo :(
Should I try a hair straightener ( i heard it makes your hair look even worse in the long run tho)? Or maybe special shampoo and conditioner?
Sorry for being messed-up, had a hard day yesterday >_>
Help me please..
PS: If you think that long hair doesnt suit me, say so!

You're early in the growth process, so it's no biggy. If I were you, I would just give it time. If you think that is bad, you may go out of control in the awkward stage. So, just hang in there, let it grow longer and get heavier. Check to see if you have this problem 6 months from now, 3 inches more.
this is all part of having long hair really :)
you will get used to it as it gets longer. your hair won't always be the exact same every day , that is one of the great things about it.
If your still thinking about growing it out, take some more time to grow it out a little. Maybe in your case another half year or so. Trust me you are in the early stages of hair growth. You're kinda fustrated because of it not cooperating the way you want it and also is this the first time trying to grow it out? if so you are just not used to longer hair yet and seeing yourself with it. Give it time. The good thing about longer hair is that you never have to worry about cowlicks or hair sticking up everywhere :). I've been growing out mine for 2 years now and it's about 3 inches past my shoulder line. You just have to wait. It's a cool process though to go through if you want to go for a change.
Good luck.

No need to worry as this is all part of the growing out process. 6 months is still much too soon for your hair to settle-down. To do this it needs weight which you will have for sure at the 2 year mark. Best and easiest thing to do if you can is just let your hair do its own thing and forget about it as it continues to grow. You will have many new looks along the way that can actually be rather fun.
Simon I think you will look really good with long hair. Unfortunatly there is that akward stage we all talk about. If you stay the course you will be rewarded with bsome really cool long hair. Looking at your pictures I think it wil suit you very well and give you your own idenity

Hey its ok man, you and I,and most like any others at this length of time have the same problem. Its really freaking annoying but itll die down soon enough. The part that annoys me the most is on the sides right infront of my ears..the only place that I have curly hair...Sometimes I think it kind of looks like a orthodox jewish rabbi...LOL
I'm almost at 7 months and I've also got some curls in the back, in the beginning I also hated them but right now I love them.
My hair behaves different each day, thats part of growing it out.
It's your own choise if you want to straighten it, I advise not to.
Later on when it's longer you don't want to have a lot of damage.
Your hair doesnt look bad at all, but if you're really annoyed with it, just wear a hat. thats what i did with mine for the whole "awkward" stage. Just dont straighten it too often if you choose to do so...
Welcome aboard, Simon!
I think your hair is starting out well. Do not worry about the little curl at the back. It is normal for many people and Implies that your hair will have a subtle and envious wave to it when longer. If you start getting straighteners and such now, you risk damaging your hair before it can get to any substantial length, potentially frustrating yourself and your efforts.
Just go with it. Growing out your hair is an inner as well as an outer journey.
Good luck!

You're into the awkward stage now. That will last for another few months, and tnere's not much you can do about it.
I'd advise against straighteners, but one method that works for some people is to comb the hair straight when its nearly dry. It doesn't always work and may cause a little damage to your hair, but not as much as heat straightening would.
Apart from wearing a hat, you can try out some styles with gel, wax and even Brylcreem. There are quite a few websites that give ideas for styles for medium to long hair on guys.
I know this is going to be a frustrating time for you, but give it six months and it will get better. Resist the temptation to cut your hair until it's out of the awkward stage, or you'll just prolong it. I had about four tries at it before I eventually managed to let mine grow. I must admit I found it easier to get through the awkward stage in winter cos then you can wear a hat and not be too hot. That's another thing you'll notice as your hair grows, you'll feel a lot warmer because of the extra insulation. You could be in for a long, hot summer. Just keep the end goal in mind though and you'll do fine.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and all the advice! :) I'll just keep on growing it out then!
It's not really the fact that I dont like my hair right now, but people looking at me and thinking that I simply dont have money to go to the hairstylist or barber :| I work in a bar so it doesnt look that bad ( I think?) due to the pretty dark environment :P I tried the styling "gum" to keep the hair in decent shape, I might post some pictures later, once I find a camera ;]
Thanks again everyone :)
