Hi, im new to this site, and saw that many people here were experiencing problems similar to mine, and best of all that everyone is growing out/has grown out their hair. It's good to have a place like this to come to for advice, and that's just what i came to do.. I got my last very short haircut around March 2007, and haven't cut it or trimmed it since..as you can see my hair appears straight at the top(near the hairline), wavy through the mass of hair, and sort of curls at the bottom, on the back..im having a hard time keeping my hair back and preventing it from falling directly on my face, or down on the side(onto my cheeks, how it is in the pic).ive tried headbands, but the hair still falls to the sides at the end and not back how i want it....ive been conditioning it every night and that has somewhat aided my frizziness, but despite the styling, my hair still falls to the sides or onto my face..im beginning to think my hair is retarded..lol..i dont want to trim it or cut it, but still need advice and help!..thanks

(i also need advice from wavy haired people on how to keep and care for my naturally wavy hair)
Hey,
I have wavy hair for about 11 months since I started growing it out and I found that finger coming and a little bit of brushing seems to keep my hair nice and maintains it's natural wave. I also wash my hair every two days and condition every day. I can't speak for anyone else but that is what seems to work for me.
Good luck and the best of growing.

Actually your hair looks pretty cool on your cheeks.
But here are some methods I've used until it got long enough to
tie back.
Gel and comb it back.
Bandanas.
Wear a hat or cap either forward or backward however you like.
Going through the "awkward" stage is a pain but definitly worth
it once you get to longer hair that can be tied back or put
behind your ears or shoulders.
Hang in there and good luck.
Trust me, you do NOT have any problems with your hair nor is your hair 'retarded'. You are just in the awkward phase, the phase where ones hair tends to act up and drive one nuts. Just let it grow and don't fight it. Let it do it's thing and with given time, it'll relax and behave better.
Tips: Curly hair is more fragile than it's counterpart. Be gentle with it. Curly hair tends to be drier than it's counterpart. Give it plenty of moisture and avoid shampooing too often. Curly hair is curly! Avoid brushes and combs with tightly spaced teeth. Combs with W I D E L Y spaced teeth are your pals. Your fingers work miracles too!
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Your hair looks great, nothing to worry about.
Once it gets more lenght it will be less of a hassle and you can put it in a ponytail. This is a hard part but you've gotta be strong.
Excellent advice form Chris H. Your hair is thick too and the temptation to use styling products may not be good for it's condition so avoid that.
Keep trying head bands, Bandanas, Buffs, Hats, whatever you can deal with. I would say another year and you'll be past the worst of it. Don't trim it or it will just prolong the agony.
Also Welcome to MLHH.

Sounds like you're right on track with the awkward phase for growing out wavy hair. It will seem like ages until you can get the bangs to stay behind your ears because the waves/curls keep making them shorter. Mine didn't really stay until I could put most of the hair in a tail, and even now becasue of the thickness (which you seem to have as well) it won't stay tucked if loose. Wavy/curly hair has a mind of it's own not matter what you do.
My advice would be to just keep going and not cut it. I have similar hair and while I still can't keep it out of my face very well if worn loose (and I'm at about 21 months from a buzz cut), I'm happy with my mane and I know it will get better with time.
Good luck!

You have great hair indeed and it's hardly retarded! LOL
Make sure you get no future haircuts for a very long time like 1-1/2 years and you will find that by itself your hair will settle down and look terrific. I have yet to have witness one guy who grew his hair out that failed in the end to have very fabulous-looking long hair. But the patience.......Yikes!
However in the end, it is worth it.
Best of luck to you as you continue your journey.
I've found that beanie caps do a good job with controlling hair. because of their elasticity they keep it in place pretty well and look pretty good with medium length hair in my oppinion.
