Last night, I was hounded on a popular forum that I have visited since 2003. I was called a girl, a greasy bastard and an emo.
My crime? Having long hair.
The thing is, no-one ever makes these comments to me in real life, but some idiots who I have never met, and likely never will think they an judge me because I have long hair? They hide behind their computer screens insulting others, to make their own hideous self look better.
Maybe I should take it as a compliment that I apparently look like a woman, that must mean my hair must be getting long.
I'm not upset by their comments, except one, which was "you are a waste of precious air". Why? Because I'm not like them?
I'm sure people on here get this, you'd think bullying by appearance would have died out years ago. Especially with the diverse community like today.

Just let them know that if they are so insecure that they have to deride others on line just to get their kicks that you don't need to waste your time with them. And then just do not respond to them; period.
I did say that to them. The argument is over. I'm now ignoring them.
- Chris PhoeniX
Needless to say their forum is not nearly as well moderated as ours
or that would not be tolerated. It's sad that some people are
that stupid, but the world has been full of stupid people since we
began walking upright. My best advice is don't waste your time
trying to have the last word with them as it only provides short
term gratification. The best you can do is move on.
Kevin
You really take your trve metal of cult to serious.
*****
Huh???
Yes Huh? What is that supposed to mean?
I didnt understand that sentence. sorry no offense meant
Is this the new "All your base are belong to us," or what?
Heheh...

ROFL
Haha. That's awesome! And don't worry about Dusk. He's always been hating on PhoeniXCE.
"He's always been hating on PhoeniXCE."
Why?
My Brother, In reality it's those people that are actually the waste of precious air , or whatever the quote was.
The computer and internet have given cowardly people that would otherwise never open thier mouths false courage to sit behind a keyboard and insult people
Be yourself and never have a care about what others say about you, especially from the aninimity of cyberspace. The only time I even give a thought to what people think of me is if they mean something in my life, such as a family member , boss, significant other etc. Even then, you still have to be yourself and not let others dictate to you how you choose to live your life.
Crime? Long hair on men is not a crime in most countries.
PhoeniXCE, you are just now realizing that many people on the internet who hide behind their screens act 10x tougher and ruder than they do in person? Seems like more and more lately that people think hiding behind the internet is a license to act like immature a**holes or something. Don't you realize that the internet is not reality? Maybe getting out and meeting people face to face more often will allow you to see the good side of people.
Secondly, don't worry so much about what strangers think- ESPECIALLY on the internet. They are just strangers. If you give in and cut your hair, people will find other things to criticize about you. Usually the type of people who are negative and criticize others a lot aren't happy with themselves or their lives, and take it out on others to relieve their stress and unhappiness. Just ignore and avoid these types of people. You can't please everyone, so don't even try. Just be happy with yourself and accept who you are.
They're called "router cowards."
Don't validate their claims by responding. It's a waste of your time; you can't get back that once it's gone.
Grow your hair and be happy; hang out here!
First, if you are not happy with the decorum maintained by the moderators at a site, just don't go there. Would you go to a party in real life that is a brawl and where people are beating up others at will?
Second, ignore comments from anonymous people because they are not real people. Anytime someone conceals his identity he is at some level living a fantasy. If you want fantasy, go to Disneyland. They have a decent security force, and behavior at the place is well moderated so that those who go there enjoy it.
Bill
People like that don't need your attention, just don't answer to the thread at all and warn a moderator.
I've been called a greasy bastard, a girl and an emo before
I suppose it didn't mean anything to them that I do not listen to emo music :S
It hurts when someone belittles you
But at least your not part of their "lets fit in because were all unimaginative cowardly clones" SHEEP-FEST! XD
I'm sorry this happened to you, Chris. It should not have happened at all. As Vincent said, do make sure it is reported to the mods of that site if they have any. Also, some places have a feature to ignore posts by specific members, feel free to use that. It sounds like the bullies didn't leave you questioning your hair and I'm glad of that because your hair was merely what they hung their taunts on. They (or one lonely person with several logins) just used it because they wanted attention.
Elizabeth
If anything, it's made me want to make my hair even longer! I know short hair isn't for me. I'm comfortable in who I am, I'm not gonna let some ill-informed people, who don't know me, get me down.
- Chris PhoeniX
There's good wisdom in the posts below, PhoeniXCE. Responding to the idiots in question merely validates their shallow point of view and makes them feel better. 'Tis more productive to simply ignore the rabble and get on with things.
The world, sadly, is full of narrow-minded bigots, and they can sometimes come at one from places least expected. But, the main thing is to be yourself, not let others dictate to you, and to conduct your life with decency, integrity, honesty, and honour. By doing that, you become something that the narrow-minded fool will (and can) never be.
George Carlin summed it up beautifully -- "Think how dumb the average person is, and then realise that fully 50% percent of the population is even dumber."
It seems to universally be the case that stupid people become all the stupider when they can be anonymous, so I wouldn't worry about it at all, and as has been mentioned, it has nothing to do with your hair, or you at all, just their own inferiority complex and innate stupidity.
Keep it going,
Austin
Exactly, just look at some of the comments on YouTube where people are hiding behind a screen name and a gray faceless picture... The internet age has bred a bunch of people who wouldn't say something to someones face, but they'll hide behind their computer and spew all sorts of nastiness to make themselves feel better. It is too bad that we live in a society that is increasingly becoming more conformist as I see it. When I was a long hair in Jr High, the guidence counselor told me that long hair on a male was a sign of rebellion, therefore I needed to be put on ADD drugs to make my mind "work right" and I would get a short spikey hair cut and look and act like everyone else because "being different is detramental to a young persons psyche and overall health". But then again didn't they tell us all the time it was good to be different.....Hippocryites.... Sorry for the rant, but all this just shows that no matter how much people want to spout off about diversity, anyone who dosen't fit society's code is ousted, in this case the code is...Males have short hair, females have long hair.....
