Because I am a musician who also has to keep a day job, I must keep my hair neat during the week. This usually means Pony Tails with a little bit of gel on top for neatness.
However I have statred a tradition for myself. Friday is braid day. I ask my daughter to do it as I haven't yet taught myself to braid my own hair.I wish I had a way to take a photo. I will ask my daughter to take a picture soon with her digital camera. Just picture a mid back Blond single braid.
I would love to learn to braid my own hair. Is anybody proficient at this. How did you teach yourself

Sounds like a good idea.
Mine's in a braid most days now, cos it's just too hot to have it loose plus it gets all tangled up when I go cycling if I leave it loose or in a tail.
A straightforward braid isn't too difficult to do. The main points are to get the different sections the same size. With hair as long as yours, you'll find that your arms aren't long enough to do it all behind you, so you'll have to bring it round to the front to finish of. That's about the only tricky point. You have to maintain the tension or it'll kink or twist. I often find it's easier to do with my eyes closed.
Just keep practising. You'll soon get the hang of it.

Thanks Viking, no time like the present to start trying to learn to do it. This way I don't have to depend on anybody
have a great week

Just gather your hair into the back, as IF you were about to tail it; then divide into 3 sections... Then cross the left section over the middle; now cross the right section over the middle; repeat ad nauseum (noticing that the "middle" becomes a new section every time)!
Viking said it well, too. A friend of mine taught me a new trick, though: when you can no longer reach your arms around in back, simply turn your head upside-down, continuing the braiding process from that position...
Have fun, --- and Happy FRIDAY!!!

Thanks Ken, you make it sound easy. I guess there is a learning curve to it just like everything else
Have a great week Monday April 7th

Todd, I took an embarrassingly long time to learn to do the single braid down the back on myself despite loving to braid everything in sight. If you have never braided things before then I would suggest learning the steps where you can see what you are working on. Perhaps start with yarn then move up to a small braid from the front of your head where you can watch as you braid. A braid of half your hair done right behind your ear is another good practice position because it is easy to watch with the help of a mirror. After that you can learn the added skill of using what you know from a difficult hand position require to start a centered braid on yourself.
Good luck with this and enjoy the practice!

Thanks Elizabeth, I am going to try what you have suggested

I'm certainly no expert, but I found this instructional video to be very helpful. The first part is how to braid someone else's hair, the second is how to braid your own.
