I don't post much here, but I have a problem that's been bugging me. When I had short hair, I really enjoyed playing basketball and football. I've been growing my hair for about 2 years now and it's shoulder length. For these years, I've barely played any sports because my hair seems to get in the way.
Today I played basketball again and was reminded me of how much fun I used to have. I was wearing a hat to keep my hair out of the way, but summer is coming up soon and the weather is going to be much too hot for a hat.
I've tried a ponytail but it never seems to stay put. I feel that I'm tying it pretty tight but it still falls out after a few minutes. If anyone has any solutions to this I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
try wearing a bandana dude it helps keep my hair out of my face itll work for ya trust me
I'm about to hit the hot Texas summer with the same concern. I plan on doing a tail with a head sweatband. Maybe several rings on the tail.
There may be a soloution for you here, a nice headwear product; They're called Buff. Check them out, read about em' because I think this could help you control your hair while you are active in sports activities.

Try an Alice band. They are brilliant even if some frown on them
Try putting it in a bun!

Braid it.
Or tie it in a pony tail with several hair ties. Sometimes
I have three or more in at a time.
Yeah a bandana would work great but they are hot as hell to wear. probably a couple hair ties or try to get the thicker hair ties...i only use those... but the bandana would be you best bet. but it's you call hair out of your face or a hot bandana on your head.
Take care

Girls usually put slides or pins in their hair if it won't stay in a ponytail, but the real problem is that we all still think that it looks girly to do that. If you watch a girl's netball team, which as on old lecher I have done many times (LOL!), you usually find that they all have ponytails, even the ones whose hair is really too short. Netball is similar to basketball, but they play in short skirts and I think they have to not move their feet when in posession of the ball, except to actually throw it.
The long term solution is simple, once your hair is long enough it will stay. It's what to do until then. A bandana is actually a good idea. If it is hot weather you can soak the bandana with water to keep you cool.
A high ponytail also keeps more of the shorter hairs in it than a low one, but again it's true that the higher you tie it the more girly it tends to look. Ironically, this is probably because many of the girls you see with ponytails don't actually have long hair, so they can't tie it lower, whereas guys with hair that short don't usually attempt to tie it back, or at least without some real reason, like playing basketball.
I'm on par with the rest of the guys but it must be streesed!
Bandannas are the best. Plus you look badass with one on, especially while playing a sport.
Thanks to everyone for the replies!
It seems that a bandana is a common solution, I'll have to try that out.
If you enjoy doing these sports you really should try to start doing them again. I don't have experience with very long hair and sport but right now a bandana works great for me while sporting.
With longer hair maybe you can try braiding it?
