im starting to grow my hair out. its only been 3 months, but my sideburns are starting to get real thick. eventually my long hair will mostly be covering my sideburns, but in the meantime, what should i do? by the way, the sideburns come parallel to my earlobes. thanks.
You'll probably want to trim them, with the strands being around 2 cm (3/4 inch) in length, up to the height where strands can be swept back over your ears. This is because, even when your hair grows way out, when you sweep it back or put it in a tail, hair in front of your ears won't go there, and it'll stick out making you look like a clown if it is real long, unless you have a thick beard below it to match. (You implied you were shaving below your earlobes.)
==========
Comb the sideburns toward the front, and clip off anything that extends past the hairline. Then comb it toward the back, and again cut off anything that extends past the hairline. That'll keep 'em nice and tidy.

What I would recommend for thick sideburns that need to be trimmed is to graze the hair with a razor until it becomes nice and neat.
