When we went to the hairdressers today, my mum booked me in for next friday without even asking me, and i told her no, and she was fine about it and asked the woman to cancel it.
I got the usual, you need it trimming stuff, and the woman said if i didnt want it cutting, how about straightening it.
It got me a little bit curious, as at the sides, it sticks out really badly, and the back is quite curly, and i hesotantly agreed.
I've told myself i'm only gonna do it once to see what its like, but i am a little worried about damage even from one session.
I can still cancel it, but i'm unsure...
Is it what YOU WANT?!! If so, do it and deal with it. Even if it falls out. If not, don't do it!!
Personally i think it would be best to just let it grow on it's own for a few months more until you have more length, but that's up to you:)
Hi Beanz,
I had the same problem as you when my hair was at your current length. The ends flipped out like crazy all over the place, to the point where I even tried lying down after my showers to keep my hair flat. After a while, I just kept it behind my ears until it got longer. I'm a bit past shoulder length now. The longer it gets, the straighter it will get.
Also, if the last couple of inches are flipping all over the place, it won't matter when your hair is at your chest, will it? I think it'll make it look more interesting than dead straight hair anyway. Personally, I'm almost at the point where the ends flipping out poses no problem. I hope they still do this when my hair gets even longer.
I straighten my hair everyday and have been doing so for the last like 6 months and I've no major damage. But I'm using a straightener that is sort of expensive and I also use a heat protection spray on my hair too, so that's probably why.
Straightening your hair is not necessary as you already have fairly straight hair in my eyes. You should only straighten if it's really curly and even then, you have to think and be sure about your decision.
With semi-straight/wavy hair like yours, it'll straighten itself out as it gets longer. Mine is straight at the top, sides, bangs and upper back but kind of wavy or curly at the lower back. It has straightened itself out slowly in the past 6 months.
Your hair is perfectly fine as it is and does not need straightening.
Although some folk think it is OK it does damage the hair so simply minimize any artificial interference with it - and that includes the use of scissors.
Dude, This is YOUR decision....
Keep in mind though, (as what I have seen in your updates), your hair is pretty much straight (for as mine is as well), and as you will pass that awkward stage, those flips will eventually die out, thus making your mane straight...these flips are just temporary...
What kind of straightening is this, chemical or heat?
Personally, I would go against chemical methods, as it will weaken your hair and damage it...
If this is heat-straightening, especially by a flat-iron, if you use these irons too often, you will notice damage, especially on your ends
Personally, Ive only used a flat iron once, and I really see no need in using one since you already have straight hair...
...What I did when I was in that stage, was use a good conditioner or serum, or a little gel, on those parts, let it dry, or if your hair was having one of those 'bad hair days', get out a blow-dryer (ionic, and on low, preferably), and use a brush on your hair as you're blow-drying....which will straighten/smooth out those parts...That, or if your hair is long enough, put it in a little tail, and once it dries, it comes out straighter...
You can use these alternatives, product, or a little blow drying here and there, and I prefer it over a flat iron anyday, but its your decision.....Just make sure you use CONDITIONER or protection, whichever route you take...
God luck, and Im sure the flips will go away pretty soon :)
Peace,

My hair is pretty much straight, and i am just too concious of causing any damage, so I'm not gonna risk it,
Thanks guys
Good man and great to hear.
Cheers,

Good for you, and too bad others don't have your brains, we
wouldn't get so many "I runied my hair" posts if they did.
Well done.
