Hey everyone. Hope you are all well. I have a question. I seem to notice lots more shedding the past couple of weeks or so, mostly all long hairs. I'm hoping it is natural shedding since it seems to be doing this around the 2 year mark. It's just disarming at times seeing what comes out when I comb and or brush. I'd say it's around 100 hairs a day lately. Normally I would say I shed between 50-75 a day.
Input highly appreciated.
Cheers to all!
Max
Hi Max,
I don't think you have anything to worry about at all, since it is known there is a variation in shedding at different times of the year. I know it can be as low as 50 hairs a day, and can be higher than 100 at other times. My understanding is that everyone goes through higher shedding periods, when the hair is in a "resting" phase. As far as I can tell, your hairline looked excellent in your photos. Hope this helps!
Take care,
David
Hi David, thanks for your response. This is what I was thinking, but just wanted some confirmation...at 49 any type of seemingly excess hair loss is disconcerting. Thanks for the comment on my hairline, the photo indeed masks my "mile-high" hairline. LOL :-)
Hope you are doing well and that spring has sprung in Nova Scotia!
Cheers,
Max
Im having the same problem Max im at over a year now and i have maybe 25 hairs fall out not sure if this helps but its what im seeing on me, i think its normal for 100 actually i wouldnt worry about it dude its all natural
Hey Mark, thanks for your input. Well, if it's normal then at least there's something that's normal about me! :-)
Hope yer doin well.

I am, again, amazed that some of our members actually count shed hairs...hey, we all can become obsessed!
Hey Beachbum, I wouldn't say obsessed...concerned about a situation perhaps. I weigh myself every week...because I'm in tune with my body, etc. I don't see this as being all that much different. I'm not losing any sleep over it. Although I agree...we all can be become obsessed over some things now and then that we consider important.
Cheers,
Max
Shedding is what we do. Anytime is a great time to shed!
Bill
Thanks alot Bill!
Max
Save them up and have a bandanna made from them.
LOL...now that could be money maker Quester!
Cheers,
Max
Hi Max,
My hair sheds quite a lot sometimes too.. Sometimes more than others but it not unusual for me to pull the hair out of my shower drain catch every time I finish washing (enough to hurt my feelings).. My brush gets "full" of hair every week or so as well.. From what I've seen and heard this is normal... or at least I hope it is! Your hair looks great in your pic, I wouldn't worry...
Take care,
Tom
Hey Tom, thanks so much for the input, I really appreciate it. I pretty much figured it was normal, so I guess I just needed some re-inforcement. So, in the end I hope to have hair at least something like you do...lengthwise, your hair looks super by the way. Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
Max
a different method. Since I keep my hair in a rope most of the time, I can recover about 80% of it. I simply weigh my shed hair. It is so much easier. Warm weather causes me to shed more.
Scott
Hi Scott, wow! Thanks for the visual there...of course your hair is something like 4 feet long...i would presume. This definitely puts it in perspective and thank you. Hope you are having a good spring thus far.
Take care,
Max
My hair is only about five inches, and I shed between 100-200 (I'm only 21) hairs a day. I shed when washing, when brushing, when straightening, walking, eating, sleeping...basically, all the time. I even shed a hair when I was writing this (I ran my fingers through my hair and it came out.
It is nerve racking, I'll admit - but this has been going on for me for at least four months, and I'm certainly not going bald.
Furthermore, every hair that falls out will grow back.
Also, I think hair sheds in cycles. I've talked to women about this matter, and some claim that they shed large amounts every four months or so.
For me, last month I had a freakout. I had a week where every day I shed 300-400 hairs, yes, I counted. I freaked out, but my hair is looking fine and still growing.
Unless your hairline is thinning/receding, I wouldn't worry about a thing.
Keep it growing! :D
Hey Tim, thanks for taking the time to share your info. It helps alot! Yeah, I got somewhat concerned about seeing all those long hairs falling out...
Thanks again and happy growing!
Cheers to you,
Max
I don't think you have anything to worry about. My theory? The shedding that is going on now is most probably "natural shedding big-time." What I mean by that is that I, and some others that post here have spoken of a certain time of year when their hair sheds like crazy. For myself, every single year my hair starts shedding much more about mid-July. By August it is "raining hair" before the cycle gradually comes to its conclusion around the 3rd week in September. The funny thing is, despite this yearly big-time-shedding-period for myself, my hair remains looking full. I once worried about it as well, but no longer. Now, "if" this shedding of yours were to continue for 5 months of well over 100 hairs per day, at that point I would be alarmed and then seek a doctors opinion. Most likely however there is nothing to worry about.
Hey Justin, thanks so much for taking the time to share the info...this makes me feel more comfortable. Yeah, if this were to continue for months then I would start to get really unnerved.
Thanks again Justin
Salud,
Max
PS Here's to no more need for tangle poems!!!
As everyone has said its perfectly normal, you should see the plughole when I get out of the shower! I think it looks more now aswell because the hair is so much longer.
Don't worry Max!!
Cheers Dave
Hey Dave, yep, the added length just adds to the horror I guess. :-) Thanks for the calming words... I vow to not loose sleep over it.
Cheers back,
max
