I'm currently completing my degree in IT and at this point have an option of going for an MBA or a masters in CIS. Management in IT is fine with me and so is being really technical in terms of becoming a DBA but the only thing that concerns me about getting an MBA and being stuck with management is being confined to short hair. For the people that have been around small to mid-sized level corporate environments, is semi-long hair to long hair in a pony tail accepted in terms of management positions? I don't even need that long of hair, just enough for a small pony tail thus I still have a "clean" look without any facial hair as well.
I know if I asked this question to anyone else they would laugh in my face as they don't get it.
I'd say don't even worry about it. If your good with people and have a good skill set, then you should be fine. I work I.T. and have hair that is mid back. I know if I cut my hair today and went into work, all my managers would be worried. The best you can do is just be your self and be happy with your self. :-)
I have to agree with ESDI and I've worked in the corporate environment and small companies and I've been judged on my merits and skill level and not the length of my hair.
We know in some parts of the world longhair stil gets alot of negative stigma and we hear enough stories of woe that people have but their hair to fit in for jobs etc.
So as long as you are presentable and you have the rights skills you should get hired.
Cheers,
John.
