Found you guys today when I had yet another confrontation with my parents about me growing out my hair. I've been growing it out for about a year now and caved twice during that time to get it cut. My hair is now around 7 inches and I'm having some problems with it. I keep it conditioned and wash it but it still gets really frizzy and the top layer is straight while the bottom layer is curly and likes to separate the top layer and poke through. Any help would be appreciated, My current goal is just below shoulder length and I'm almost there. I attached a picture of my progress.
Madison,
You have great length keep it growing...

Welcome to the board. You've made great progress for 7 months, but just keep it growing, and you'll be golden. Best of luck! =)

...with all of the horrible things going on in this world,
you would think that long hair would be a minor issue--but no.
Oh well, just remember this: Fear = Anger.
Caring parents want what they think is best for you. They may truly believe that long hair
will only make things more difficult for you in life.
Whenever you have a confrontation, remain calm. Remind your parents that long hair can be
cut off in minutes, if necessary. It's not like growing horns
or a tail--both of which are much more difficult to get rid of.
Good Luck!
with my parents about me growing out my hair.
Hi Madison and welcome to the one and only mlhh as this should be your last stop for longhair support. Its a shame that your longhair journey was interrupted by being pressured into unwanted haircuts but the main thing is that you are back on track again.I can't understand why people would be so forceful about you growing out your hair as its not like its hurting anyone. You could be doing lots worse things so if thats their only beef then they are lucky then.
As for your hair issues it could be that your washing your hair too often.I only shampoo and condition every other day as otherwise my hair gets too dried out and won't lay down nice. And the reason I do it every other day is because the hair nearest my head starts getting oily and looks flat and crummy. The length however looks fine still.Thats why I only use a small dab of shampoo just at the top of my head so as not to dry out the length too much.
Anyway your hair looks great and I hope you reach your goal:)Take care and have a great weekend.

Welcome Madison, your hair looks to be in good shape, you're well on your way to shoulder length.

Rent a season or two of "Kojak" on DVD. After they see what a creep Tely Savales was they probably won't say anything more to you. I worked for me.
Welcome to the board!
You've got nice hair and made great progress towards you goal of shoulder lenght. I think the curly hairs will settle once there longer. Good luck with your hair growing yourney, hope you can continue with it.
Madison, try some Jojoba Oil on your hair (you can get it at a GNC store or online) it's doing wonders on my dryish curly/wavey hair.
Hope it helps.
