I'm about 6 months into the growing process. I started from a buzzcut, and my hair is almost at 4 inches now. I always thought my hair was straight, but length has proven it to get quite wavy and curly!
My hair is black and extrememly thick. It's wavy, and has some pretty pronounced curls at the back. I won't lie, at times, they can get extremely annoying and feel more awkward than anything, but i'm trying to avoid any trims or haircuts so I can get length and have it weigh itself down.
For people with my type of hair, do you know how long it took for your curls to settle down? And for those that grew out from a short haircut, how did you work with these curls? Are there drying methods that are preferred for this type of hair? Some information would definitely keep me motivated lol.
Thanks for the motivation and information MLHH.
Howdy Mr. Slash23,
When I still lived at home, my dad did not allow me or my brothers to grow our hair out even to touch the top of our ears! When I left home at age 18, it didn't take too much growth before discovering that I had wavey hair, instead of pin-straight (which is what it looked like when it was short)!
Anyway, hope your hair-growing journey continues to be an on-going fun discovery!

Welcome to the board.
I'm at 7 months right now so our hair is about the same lenght.
I've discovered I have wavy hair and the back curls up a lot.
Don't know when it will settle down, but I don't care how it looks right now it will eventualy get better.
I just let it air dry and after that I comb it, to see how it looks look for my thread a little furter down.
Hope to see some pics of your hair.
I'm about 6 months in myself, so I definitely know how you're feeling now. My hair is actually quite fine, with some waves starting to show, so I don't have much advice for you in that area. But it's good to know there are people on these boards who are in the same spot as I am. Take care and good luck.

Same here. With short hair, it always looked straight, but growing it out has caused it to show it's rebellious curly side. I remember as a kid, I always had pin straight hair, but it seems like by the time I hit puberty the whole make-up of my hair changed and it not only turned darker, but wavy too....Hmmmm....
I have the same type hair and I go to my stylist and have her use these thinning shears which help cut some of the thick and curly hair out. She doesn't take any length off just take the thining shears and cuts it along the sides and back becuase it gets so thick and can be frizzy. I also use a pomade and wax stick to keep things in check and contol the frizz from happening. Hope this helped.
