Are mullet haircuts true long hair? I do know that I don't like them.
Well, the common view about mullets is that they are, "half & half", --- half-long / half-short. It's hard to argue over that, since that is exactly what mullets look like, and can even be described by using a tape measurer!
I'm not crazy about them, either; but, "to each his own", I say.... We all have the right and priviledge of pursuing whatever makes us happiest!

Everybody has his own choise, but I think everyone without a standard cut has long hair. I've got some sort of mullet right now because I'm growing out without haircuts, but I can't wait till al my hair is long.
Vincent, You don't have a mullet if you don't cut your hair. Awkward stage maybe. A mullet is a deliberate shorter cut on the top and sides with the hair left long in the back.

I know what a mullet is, that's why I said some sort of mullet although it's not a real mullet everyone in the 80s had.
So your right it's better to call my hair akward right now :)
Unless you have a full head of hair, i'd say no in my own opionion. There is a guy who i work with that has hair down to his back but since he has balded a bit up top, he really has no choice so i still see him as a true longhair to me because he really couldn't help it that he balded on top.

I agree that mullets are offensive and this is a HILARIOUS thread I'm glad someone touched on this subject. I think if its a true mullet, meaning long in the back with a buzz on top it's NOT TrueLH. If its a balding gentleman, I give him credit as Ken says because there's no choice in the matter, yet they stick with it anyway which is honorable. The only mullet I would count is that of a "Rocker/Glam Mullet" (which I also oppose, but still count as a TrueLH).
See the attached photo for reference of a Rocker Mullet.
Chris, As a reformed mullethead myself I will say no. Don't men this as a slam to anyone who prefers the mullet style but in my view It's only pretending. Also I would say true longhair doesn't arrive until it flows nicely upon one's shoulders. Here is photo of me with my former look!

Well it suited you then and looked fine.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
I reckon all the anti-mullet hysteria is just a backlash against '80s fashion. Although Jonalbear actually does have a mullet in his pic, it seems to have got to the point where anything that isn't 'one-length' is dubbed as a mullet, even though a lot of other such styles were around before the advent of the mullet.
I personally had a 'layered' cut in the '70s, down over my shoulders. It looked pretty good, if I may so so, but only for five minutes at a time inbetween combing, LOL! I need 'one-length' hair just to make it manageable, but I have nothing against other styles on other people. Sadly, a '70s layered style would probably be confused with an '80s mullet by those who know no better.
There are fashions in men's long hair, just like in anything else, and whether we like it or not we are all conforming, relatively speaking, with the current fashion for 'one length' hair, even though we are in a minority of 2-3% in the first place just by having long hair atall.
Our reaction to mullets is no different in principle than how we might react to someone in a powdered wig, except we only view them as a couple of decades out of fashion, rather than a couple of centuries! It's all just a matter of degree.
How long is long,
how short is short-
tis what we make it,
tis my retort.
For who's to say,
if said at all-
opinions so different,

Like not that which,
the Mullet may be-
but rest ye assured,
twill remain...you'll see.
