I'm growing out again and have reached a point that I would like to try the undercut or layers hairstyle. I'm not talking a #2 on the sides or shaved just about 1 to 1 1/2" up the sides because that's where all of my gray is and the hair is so curly. When they do this kind of cut do they go all the way around the head with the 1 to 1 1/2" including the back? Also with about 5" of hair is this a possible cut that I can sport or do people usually wait until there hair is longer? I'm 48 years old and don't want to wear a style that is looks to young on me but want to continue to grow my hair out. Any comment or pics would be greatly appreciated.
My only comment would be to use the two week rule:
"Wait two weeks before deciding to cut."
Remember, it's much faster to cut than to grow. What if you make the undercut, then don't like it. You'll have a long wait to grow it out.

Amen to that, thanks.

The decision is yours of course. What you describbed is almost
exactly the type of undercut I have. I am very happy with my
undercut which is about 1 1/2" all around. But that is only me
and each person has to decide for himself. Good Luck.
PS You should know that about 99% of the people here are against
undercuts so that's why I want it clear that I am only speaking
for myself and don't wish to have everybody dogpiling on me.
Thanks for putting yourself out there I know that the haircut is not popular on this site and appreciate your response. I'm going today and talking to my stylist to see what she thinks and can she cut it like I want. I only have one more question; since your sporting the style is this something that since I'm going to get it at about 1 1/2" undercut can I get it cut now with about 4 to 5" of growth or do I need my hair to be longer? My wifes always on me about the puffiness on the sides so if I want to keep my length can I get the cut now? And thanks again for your response.
I didn't get mine until my hair was about 20" and in a ponytail.
But I think you should be able to get yours now with no problem
as long as they are carefull with the cutting. It should help
with the poofiness and give a neater look.
