I woke up yesterday, with no intention of getting my hair straightened, and at the end of the day. Dont really know what happened, I had a bit of a lapse where i just thought, 'what the hell is one try gonna do.'
Even though i've had no bad effects, i kinda feel like i let myself down by not sticking to what i said, and to blatently going against what i said on here.
It did however allowe me to see the real growth (its really quite curly at the back usually) So i gained something from it.
Not gonna do it again though
Thanks Walter
Beanz
Hi Beanz,
Wow, it's long ! And it show a great color that I didn't see before.
I think that only one straightening is not that bad :)
Vivien
Thanks, it definately looks a lot longer straight.
Not sure about colour however..
Looks great to me and alot longer straight and really shows the colour off as well.
Cheers,
John.B
Really not sure about the colour, i think it may be because of the photograph, it looks darker usualy
Hey Beanz, it looks very nice straight! The color is superb. I don't think one session of hair straightening will do THAT much harm, so don't worry about it. Keep it growing, you've made a lot of progress so far.
Thanks.
Something I have been meaning to ask you, what is the origin of your name?
Sure thing.
It's origin is Norwegian/Swedish (Scandinavian to be broad).
It looks great Beanz! The increased length sure is noticeable, your hair also looks brighter than it does in your avatar:D
Simon
Thanks, as i've said, a bit curious about the colour
Hey Beanz,
Looks great. No harm done I'm sure.
My daughter changes her hair style frequently from naturaly curly to straight with a ceramic straightener with no damage. But yeah, follow your concerns and only do it sparingly if at all.
By the way, who us a face pic with the straight hair if you have one i bet it looks pretty cool.
Ciao!!!
I didnt get a front photo, except for a video, but its har dot see the difference from the front.
Anyway, i would like to have something new for my year update
"The Other G-man"
Is your name in reference to the G-man on half life?!
Or am I frying a fish with the wrong ladle?
SORRY, I am a half-life fanatic, at the moment, me and a few friends are creating a mod of it called FAR, we are doing pretty good for teenagers considering we have a half completed game that actually works.
Yeh its an immense game! XD
I think it looks great, but do you feel that you look better with straight hair? Did you use a ceramic or metal straightener?
I'm sure there wasn't much of any harm done. I know people that straighten their hair daily and they still look good.
Plus, heat straightening is supposed to be better than chemical straightening.
I did really like it, but i was a little angry at myself for not sticking to what i had promised myself.
I think they were ceramic, but it was a once only thing anyway, so i wasnt to fussed.
It looks really cool and a lot longer straightened, keep it growing
As your hair gets longer it will naturaly straighten. Don't have so much thoughts about your "wavyness" every day. Just get rid of your layers and wait one year.
What do you mean by get rid of your layers?
You just get that "wings" and what you call uneven hair because your hair isnt that long and because you got layers in your hair. If your upper hair is just equal to your bottom hair and everything is in one length you don't see that wings, you won't need an iron and your hair will look better one time.
Don't straighten your hair - it sucks.
Dont you have to have hair cut in layers?
Someone asked me that before, and i was like, i havent had anything done. Same length all over.
Thats the layered look. :P
Look on Jasons or mine pics...
oh right.
So when you say get rid of the layers, does that involve cutting??
Cause thats kinda of a no no for me
Sorry for interfering, but I think, I can help a bit.
Layers or no layers...that's something you have to decide for yourself. There are men who prefer the more natural look, achieving this by growing out their hair with no trims at all or only trimming their split ends, but there are also men who prefer the out evened look, meaning the ends are cut blunt (one layer)when the hair is long enough. Both look great, but I personally prefer the "natural" look. I havn't cut my hair for almost 2 years and 6 months now and I like it (while other people laugh at me, but who cares). I'll soon post an update. I have very curly hair and I think it would look very strange with blunt ends. I'm going to grow it down to terminal length, so I shouldn't even it out anyway. You have to consider that by evening out your hair you loose around a year of progress on the bottom layer of your hair (while the top layer remains almost untouched) depending on the height of your head and your hair type.
I recommend to wait another year and decide again. As long as you like the look of your (healthy) hair, don't cut it. I experienced that my curls settle down much better the longer they became, it's much more manageable now. So evening it out of course is not obligatory, although it's said it makes the hair even more manageable. But it's very difficult to get natural layers again if you once cut them off, so choose wisely.
(To answer your qustion: Yes, getting rid of layers involves cutting, but you don't have to get rid of them)

Sure looks great to me and I had no idea that your hair was this advanced in length. Had I been your age, I most likely would have done the same thing.
No need to go on a guilt trip about straightening just this once. Hair "has" to be a bit tougher then we sometimes give it credit for. Think of the tremendous amount of heat it takes in the sun during the Summer. But it still grows..........and it grows long. Then, what about Winter when it is snowed on and frozen? It STILL will grow long.
Best of luck to you with future success. You will have superb long hair before you know it.
Thanks Justin, I had no idea either.
The amount of weathering our hair puts up with, would probably rank it alongside the average builidng in toughness.
Not to worry..
Once never really hurts anything. I did it once for some pictures at about 13 months and I still don't have splits or dryness; and I know others have done it occasionally as well. James straightened his last year for some pictures with no harm.
The length is really coming along and looks good man.. keep it up. (the growing that is)..
Take Care..
Tristan
It looks really good (and long) straightened. And don't worry about damage, if you used a decent straightener you probably wouldn't of done much damage.
I personally straighten my hair everyday (for 6 months) and it's still pretty healthy.
It's definately not something i would do everyday.
It was at a salon, so i presume it was a good striaghtener
Thanks
I don't think I could handle my hair if I didn't straighten it, it's probably the one thing that stopped me from cutting it
Wow, I didn't expect your hair to be that long already, congratulations, it looks great.
Now having done that you don't have to do it again any time soon and it's great to hear that you have no such plans. Hair straightening can be very damaging...
Your hair will be much more manageable the longer you grow it, so just be patient. I have curly hair and also had troubles during that stage, but never straightened my hair...there are a few photos though on which I look really messy, so I know what you mean. Maybe you have wavy or curly hair which I think will look awesome grown out. (BTW: I think "longish" hair can look good, too, but it's quite unpractical sometimes and gets out of shape easily)
I know it's frustrating to have straightened it, but don't look back too often and concentrate on the future. Just do better next time and you'll be fine. Anyway, a few hair-straightenings a year shouldn't do too much harm. (But I think you can get addicted to it which is the reason I never did it ;))
But be proud of yourself, I never had such long hair when I was in your age.
Good Luck
Cheers, Herb2992
I am going to try my best not to do anything damaging.
It is a bit of a shame to me that now my hair is back to looking shorter again.
But I must not dwell on that.
Thanks
WOW, I didn't know your hair was that long. Looks great!
