My cousin, who has hair that reaches his upper back (been growing since September 2005) almost always gets breakage and broken strands in his brush, yet his hair seems fuller and thicker than my own hair and I brush more carefully than he does. What is the reason for this? He says that he's learnt to deal with it and that breakage is normal whenever he brushes.
How does breakage affect ones hair, anyway?
My initial thought is he's been growing for nearly 3 years, and his hair has only reached his upper-back? His breakage seems to be impeding any length...
Are you sure they're broken hairs? They might just be shed hairs.
Broken hairs are bad, yes, but look at the people around you. Girls and guys brush their hair from top to bottom WHILE WET, then blow dry and straighten their hair to shit, causing mondo damage and breakage, but they can still have long hair. People bleach theirs to crap and can still have long hair.
Thus, though strands are broken and it might affect thickness, it's still possible to grow long hair. It might just not be as well cared for and nice. ^_^
I don't know alot about hair myself, so take this with a grain of salt, but i've noticed something.
I always get comments about how thick my hair is, and alot of the people here seem to have pretty thick hair. And we usually take pretty good care of our hair.
And at the same time, i notice alot of people that damage their hair and do the things you mention tend to complain about having really thin hair.
Maybe there's a connection?
