It's been hitting me really bad lately, i keep seeing people and wishing i had my hair short again, and its only been intensified by straightening it, and seeing how i could look if i didnt have the flicks.
Its also very disheartening when i am only a mere week from a year of growing my hair, and i start to feel like this.
If you don't want it, cut it. Simple as that. Wait two weeks and see.
However, those flips will grow out as soon as your hair is longer. I'd just wait if you really want long hair.
Hate to see you cut after only a year.. I can imagine how rough it is at your age trying to grow it with the pressures of parents and peers to cut.. Wait a couple weeks and do what feels right then.. It's really about what you are happy with. Good luck
Tom
Don't cut it.
When my hair was shorter everyones wanted me to cut it, and it looked terible...
but now i'm proud of my hair and so happy i haven't cut it.

Nice Pic very artsy. Feelin better? Hair looks great even in black and white
Thanks Lenny !
I'm not really feeling better. things are pretty good atm but i know for some reason that the only thing that make my life good will be gone in some months.

Make sure you give yourself the two week rule.

If this is the case my man, looks like a no brainer. Re read your statment then go straight to the nearest barber shop.

Hi Beanz,
I am sorry to hear that you are contemplating cutting. Your hair is coming along very well, as seen in your last update, and if you can hang in there and get through the awkward phase, it will be a lot easier, and the rewards are well worth it. As others have said, don't forget the two week rule!
David
If you liked how it looked when you straightened it why don't you consider just going with that until you're through the awkward phase. I know most people here aren't too positive when it comes to straightening it but if it's a choice between straightening and cutting it short, I think most would think straightening would be best.
Just follow the two week rule dude...
If you just hate the flips so bad, wear a hat, use some kind of product in your hair, do something out of the ordinary.
If you want it straight, to show length and take out the flips, I'm not to control you, but if you must, just straighten the areas that are flipped, just blow dry with a flat brush or something....Use tons of conditioner and protectant if you follow to do so...
Remember, all of us have gone, or are going through this cycle of growin your hair out. Really, it isnt THAT bad, we get through it after a few months...trust me, it will get better...
hang in here!,

Honestly i think longer hair suits you better either if it's straight or wavey, but of course, it's your choice, at least give it some thought before you decide anything.
I also have those bad hairdays when i just feel like buzzing off all my hair, but once i have a good hairday i'm really motivated to keep growing it:)
I am in a weird fram of mind, where i so want to cut it, and at the same time so dont want to, if that makes sense.
I'm definately holding myself back from cutting for as long as i can, i really dont want to make a mistake i will regret for a long time..
Beanz, i remember pictures of you with short hair, now your hair is medium length for a guy and it looks alot better, seriously do not get it cut any shorter than it is now...
Stick with it mate as your hair is coming along fine and I know your not the first or the last to have those thoughts and just think how far you have come in the last year..:-)
Cheers,

You've never said that anyone or anything is pressuring you. What made you dislike long hair all of a sudden? Please don't take this the wrong way but from the photos you posted of your father, you may have some problems with MPB in the future. Seize the moment and grow your hair!
There has been really no pressure for me, it just sort of came over me last week.
Yes, most definately, every man in my family is bald.
Not somethign to look forward to
I'm going bald! But do I care, No! :-) I am still going to continue to grow what's left. :-)
very good attitude to have man, people should lose the idea that balding means you must shave all your hair off, ime not balding but a few men in my family have lost their hair.. some have not, but if i turn out to be one of the ones that does go bald ime gonna keep my hair anyway... :P
Honestly man,
My last "hair-grow" started from a buzz cut like 4 or 5 years ago and I NEVER had an awkward stage. The reason is because I utilized the "side-part/swoop" during the time from when it was first comb-able until my bangs were down to my chin without being pulled. The sidepart (for me at least) made any awkward phase look great and stylish. Go give that style a try next time you get out of the shower and see how it looks, it will probably add a whole new look and help you through; it tends to make hair in that phase look more stylish/neat. Check out MushroomCult's avatar (or Beck's in the pic posted here), he styles his pretty much exaclty as I had mine when it was shorter, it looks great on almost every face until it's long enough to part in the middle or slick back (or keep it to the side). I hope that helps you.

Well, I have felt the same as you do, but I'm actually going to get my hair trimmed tomorrow, I have chosen just to get a trim, because I'm not that sure if I want it short...Besides I have tried to get long hair for the last two or three years, now I have to do it man! Let's do it together!
Cutting your hair now would be a bad thing. When I said I was cutting my hair, I didn't get much support from the board. I don't plan on doing the same though. I say grow it! Cutting off what you have grown so far will make you regretful. I know I am very regretful.
You may be feeling bad about the flips but you'll feel far worse if you cut it and you know that I'm sure.
Think of it as a character building thing as you progress. Your ability to withstand adversity and discomfort. Feel proud that your able to withstand the annoying aspects of the awkward stage, and look forward to the result. I envy you guys who are doing this as young as you are I wish I had grown my hair in my teens.
I agree with Jason live it up for all it's worth concerning the hair. if MPB is in your genes then you'll have many years of short and or less hair so keep it long now and enjoy it.
Kevin
Everyone goes through that from time to time. The first time I grew my hair long, when I was in my early 20s, I cut it back to the wood three times before I eventually grew it long. Going by the pics you posted of your straightened hair, you're not far off being out of the awkward stage. Another couple of months and it should be over, so it would be a shame to give in after going through the worst part of it. You'll probably regret it if you do cut or even trim. I know I did. The worst part is when you go to run your fingers through it and it's not there any more. I wish I'd never cut it. I had it short for 11 years, but I'm back on the road to recovery now.
Hi. Please don't worry about it.
If you think that you need a haircut, try to erase your throughts from your head. If it is because of other people telling you to cut your hair, please don't listen to them. Just don't give up. You will get over it.
Matthew
If you feel unhappy with your hair then it's not worth keeping. If it's for fashion, things change, maybe you don't feel the bond with your hair some of us do.
If you do it, consider going for a short, layered look rather than a run-of-the-mill buzz cut. I used to be a longhair, but now I get the short layered cut twice or three times a year, and just let it grow in between. Suits me down to the ground!
I haven't been on this site for a loonnggggg time.
