Hi. Due to my fastination about the Titanic, I came up with an interesting question. Is it possible that there were men with long hair on board the Titanic in 1912?
My answer would be probably not, since styles were different about a hundred year ago. I assume that at least a couple of steerage male passangers may have their hair long. We may never know for sure.
If you come up with a guess or an answer to this question, please let us know. Thank you.
Matthew
Matthew,
There easily could have been. I am sure the steerage (never liked that term) probably came from many different cultural backgrounds. I do remember in the recent movie (1998?) there was a shot of a guy with long hair in a braid.
I've also really like the Titanic, and many older ships like it. I have always found those old ships fascinating! They were more like works for art.

There had to be, but...
At this time in history, at least from History books I have read and researched through, most men were very formal, conservative-looking. It seems as if fashion changed as the 1800s left (where long hair seemed as a common place in the western world). But, I know this doesn't apply for EVERYONE. There obviously had to be men with long hair during the time...
LOL---and also take note how the filming date sometimes reflects on the characters and movies in general, regardless of the time the film takes place---filmed and released in 1997, where in the late 1990's longer was no longer a norm as it was in the 80's and early 90s....
There had to be, although I didn't see a longhair in that movie (which I like a lot as well :P )....
It sunk didn't it!
Cheers,

I'm often intrigued by historic events and wonder if the long hairs on Titanic washed with water only or what?
Kevin
They washed with salt water.
Yes, avast!
I seem to remember reading in the Enquirer that among the relics dredged from the wreckage of the great White Line Titanic was a single hair of almost 6" in length! It was covered with algie and a bit of rust, but was sent to Professor Hans Von Shippee of Monkeyville Ireland for analysis. Apparently after scraping it down he did a DNA test on it and concluded that it was the hair of a man around the age of 45 years of age. And to top it off, his claim was that conditioner was found embedded in the strand! The professor so far cannot identify "which" man it was who went down with the ship. Any of you guys have any ideas as to who it might have been? Couldn't have been Capt. Smith as he would have been too old to qualify.
