Hey, my name's Patrick, and about five months ago I decided to finally have long hair, when I've always had short hair all my life. So I've been growing out for 5 months currently, and the awkward phase is quite annoying :P
Since everyone here are experts, how would say my progress to get shoulder length hair is working out? I'm eating right for my hair, wearing a hat to keep it down. Lastly, what type of shampoo and conditioner is right for me, since I believe I have curly/wavy hair.
Hey
Welcome here!
The awkward phase IS annoying. Trust me :P
But your hair doesn't look anywher near curly as mine, so you shouldn't worry so much :)
You'll just have flips everywhere till the hair gets long enough.
The progress is working ok, just make sure u don't use heat products and gently finger comb your hair and not rip through it with fine-toothed combs/brushes. AAAGH.
What shampoo/conditioner you need depends on your hair type and texture. There are differetn shampoos and stuff for greasy hair, dry hair, normal hair, coloured hair, etc. There are also differetn products for curly hair, straight hair... This is mainly by trial and error. I've been non-stop changing products since I first started using them! (When I was 13). I think now I managed to settle on something I find good. Try some out and notice the state of your hair after using them. If there's a conditioner which makes your hair too dry, make sure to put it on the bad list and move on.
Otherwise, you should be good. Hats are great for bad awkward stage days!! If you keep at this stage, you should get shoulder-length hair (front also) in less than a year, for sure!
Good luck :)
Shawn
I would say your bangs are about 18 months give or take to your shoulder so learn to love hats and things. You'll go through the mullet stage and want to trim the back no doubt I would do so sparingly getting only 1 inch trims every 6 months or so. Hair on average grows a half inch a month. As for shampoo that's a tough one to answer you'll have to try things out. Pantene and or Garnier long and strong are popular but people have lots of different opinions on shampoo and conditioner.
Good luck
