Hey guys. This is my first time here and also my first time growing out my hair. For the past 15 (out of 16) years i've always had short spiky hair...no more than an inch off my head. Entering into my 16th year, I decided to change and grow long hair. Curently this is my 11th month since my decision to grow long hair and I have lots of questions.
1) Am I a staight hair? I'm not so sure...it seems like it but then again my bangs endup cuving towards the side.
2) Am I able to grow long (silky) hair? My mother tells me that I do not have the right type of hair...that it would look bad,
3) About washing my hair...when I had short hair I had always shampooed and conditioned my hair in the shower everyday...and well now...i'm not so sure. Everytime I shampoo my hair becomes fluffy and poofy. I don't know if that is supoosed to happen or not but I don't like it... For now i've been shampooing it once a week and for the other days i just rinse it with water while showering.
Sorry if I'm an annoyance; I just looking for help. Thanks. :)

Here's a picture... even though it's not as recent. My hair currently is a bit longer than shown.
Your hair will be fine. All the advice you need to grow it is don't cut it. Just say no LoL ( that was in an earlier thread.)
Hello and welcome to MLHH!
By looking at your photo in the 2nd post, your hair is about the length mine was 13 months ago ( the day I decided to grow mine long ). It's sort of hard to tell at that length whether or not your hair will be straight or not, since mine had similar texture at that length.
My hair has a slight wave to it, although not as bad once it started getting longer. No matter if your hair is straight as a line or curly as a spring, the longer it gets the better it will look.
There are people with all different hair types here in varying lengths and types. Each of them seem to take pride in their hair and honestly most of them look good, even the curly ones.
Be warned though, it seems the awkward stage has been hitting hard for many users here lately and the only way to get passed it is to keep the scissors away until you're at the length you want.
Bestof luck, and keep us updated as your hair grows!

Welcome Slayn!
#1 & 2: I think you have perfect hair to grow long. Many of your friends and family who are not fond of long hair on men will, in the beginning, tell you that you don't have the right hair, face, head shape, etc, in order to win you to their way of thinking. Those comments will seem tough at times, but stay strong. Once you hair is beyound just shaggy, they'll know you are determined. As to hair type I see straight but it may get waver as time goes on... So what! Enjoy what you have!
#3: It sounds like you have a good routine, but everyone is different. Wash when youneed to, you'll know when.
