I'm new to the hair care thing, which is ironic beause I've had long hair over half my life and never knew how to take care of it (I'm 16). My hair's certainly taken a beating. I've been reading through hair stuff for about 5 months, but I need some feedback. I want to glean from some hair peoples' experience. I have to get some advice before I end up destroying my hair completely while I attempt caring for it.
I'm a girl---I should throw that out there. I like the atmosphere here, and the practical take on hair care. I'm not in this for the beauty aspect---not that long hair doesn't look insanely better than short---but for the health aspect (and because I'm one of those "natural-way" bums ;P). Hair is an identity thing for me, too. I can't say looks have nothing to do with it---because, let's face it, long hair is cooler---but it's definitely not all of it.
I got the okay from one of the moderators to post here, but I don't want to get into my "hair epic" if I'm going to be regarded board-wide as a jerk. So, just wondering if I'm unwelcome.
Welcome. Use a good shampoo and conditioner. Don't color, bleach or straighten. Use good brushes and/or combs. That's the basics.
Welcome to the board! You are more than welcome to post. Just take a few mins and read the rules and faq page please. Let us know what is going on and I am sure you will get some help. It is also good to include a picture of your problem in the post so we don't have to imagine the problem. Have a great day, Brian
Hi brown your are most welcome here as I'm sure your aware we are about men with longhair but we have some ladies who post as well and are in the users directory. Feel free to ask a few questions and most of all browse our links section if you haven't already.
Bills "on being a longhair" is a wealth of info as are other links many of which will answer some of your questions already, you know it'll narrow it down a bit.
Take care
Kevin
Welcome to the board. I think that's neat that a girl is coming to guys for hair care help instead of the other way around. The people here are very helpful, so if you need any tips just ask.
Hi Brown and I too welcome you here to the mlhh.I also find it interesting that a girl is looking to a guys longhair board for hair care advice.Quite cool.I see its already been suggested about links about hair care available on this site.Learn from that and if necessary please ask for further info.Another interesting tidbit is that I've had longhair longer than you've been alive!Hmmmmmmmmm makes me think I'm old.Nawwwwwwwwwwww!LOL.
Take care and post again.
Mark
I actually read most of the links over a month ago, I think it was---I've read so much it's all kind of blurred together.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to tell my story and ask questions without killing anyone---yes, it's that long and I have questions that have built up for 5 months.
I'm glad my inquiry is cool :P
Hi Brown and welcome! You will get all the help and advice on hair care here... Pretty cool to have a female asking guys how to take care of hair!! Glad to hear from you and look forward to hearing more ;-))
Take Care,

Hi Brown,
First of all, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you, and I am delighted that you have posted. All of us appreciate the support of our women members, and we have several already taht encourage us in our long hair journeys, and we like to support them as well.
As for your hair, the best advice I can give is plain old TLC. One thing I learned the hard way is that the use of straightening irons is a definite no-no if you want truly long and healthy hair.
Welcome to our community!
David
Welcome to the board, and I'm sure we'll all be glad to answer any of your questions in as far as we are able :)
Hi from the "Ladies Auxiliary" of MLHH. ~grin~ One thing I like about here (other than pics of men with long hair) is how supportive the guys are towards each other. There isn't the, well, cat-fighting that I've seen in the local beauty salons over who's got the nicest hair and the "right" way to do it. The guys here (for the most part) realize that everyone's hair is different, what works for one may not work as well for another.
Most of the things that the well-coiffed women do to their hair are actually damaging over the long term, but it's more profitable for salons to cause damage and sell products to "control" it, instead of preventing or just not doing it in the first place. "Metrosexual" men have the same damage, but the guys here, for the most part, are like you and me -- trying to go as natural as possible.
