I have been told that you shouldn't always wear hats and head wraps because it can increase thiness on top. Has anybody else heard this. Is it a valid thing?
Todd B.
Probably because it decreases the blood circulation in your head, and, with time, a poor circulation lead to hair loss. I remember having read it somewhere...

Thanks Vivien, I guess I should google it and see what I come up with on the subject

I think it's more apt to say that it's baldness/thiness on top that causes hat and headwrap wearing rather than hat and headwrap wearing that causes thinning/baldness.
I'm not sure if there is anything to that claim.. but, I've been wearing hats and bandannas for many years on a daily basis without any thinnning.. You've seen my pics at waist length... As it's already been said, I believe balding/thinning is the cause to wear the hat.. I personally feel that the balding/thinning thing is more genetic than anything.

Ya know Tom this makes sense to me. If you are predisposed to a thick healthy head of hair it probably wont efect it. Maybe if you are already starting to thin and you wear hats and stuff all the time it will speed up the thinning process. Food for thought absolutly

Yup, I think that's how it works in the big picture.. I also think the same to be true with people that get cancer "from smoking" etc.... Smoking doesn't necessarily cause cancer but can trigger it if you are genetically inclined.. That's what I've seen anyhow.. People that have cancer, you typically find that it's in their family history.. I've got a friend who is 90 years old and has been smoking his entire life although he and his relatives all went bald.. No cancer and his family history didn't include it... My father is 63 and still has a full head of hair as did my granfathers.. I'm gonna stick to my hats and bandana's ... lol ;-))

Sounds like another old crone story!
Yes. Before I started wearing a beanie I didn't have a spot on the back of my head, but after about a year and a half of it one started to show.
Yes. Before I started wearing a bandanna I didn't have a white spot on the front of my forehead, but after about a day and a half in the sun one started to show.

I've heard this before but I don't know if it's true or not.
I've heard it before as well, but I just don't believe it at this time. I've worn a lot of different hats in my day but never experienced any thinning/hair loss.
I have to say...great looking hat with your hair, man! Cool Morrison tie-dye as well!
