Hey everyone!
Time for my six month update post. :-D This is actually only my second progress post here, but my last haircut was late October, so I'm using that as my starting date. (My first post is #224649 if you're new/don't remember me.)
So on to the pics:
I'm actually surprised at how well the "awkward stage" has been going. There have been a good number of days that my hair has flips all over the place and refuses to cooperate, but on the whole it's been relatively painless. It's starting to "hang" now and move on its own, which is really cool. I should also mention that I had my mom trim about 3/4" off the back last week to help remove the layers. The last layer on the bottom in the back was getting disproportionally long, and I think it looks much better now. I'm planning on regular trims in the back (probably every 2 months or so) until the front catches up, at which point I'll let it all grow together to shoulder length (my ultimate goal).
Thanks for looking everybody, and let me know what you think!
Joshua
Looks good. The front will catch up on it's own most likely but oh well. Stay with it and enjoy you locks.
Thanks for the complements!
I'm not thinking so much about the front catching up as I am about the layers. The point of the trim was to help get rid of the layers that were put in at my last haircut. If I slowly trim them out over time I'll arrive at my target length all at once instead of having to grow past and then cut back.
Thanks, and I am!
Joshua
Looks great, Joshua! You'll find that, as soon as you hit the 1 year mark, the time will absolutely fly by. Hope all is well for you, and keep it growing. The longer hair really suits you! =)
-James
Thanks James! Time's already flying by; I can't believe it's been six months since I've had a haircut, lol. I'm glad you like the longer hair.
Take care,
Joshua
You have some good progress for 6 months. I wouldn't worry at all about flips or anything like that, they really don't look bad or messy or anything. Keep it up!
Peace,
Ryan
Thanks Ryan! Yeah, my hair was cooperating pretty well for this pic. I showered yesterday and it usually looks better the day after 'cause I've slept on it and flattened some of the flips. But still, even the bad days are worth it 'cause I know what's at the end of the journey!
Thanks,
Joshua
Hi Joshua
Your progress looks good and your past the point where the hair pokes you in the eye. The thing I hated about the awkward stage the most was the eye poking, everything else was tolerable.
Sounds like you have a good plan and goal in mind so I'll wish you lots of good luck.
Kevin
It actually still does now and then, and yes, it's very irritating. For me personally I find that my bangs coming forward in the way is most irritating. I'm pretty active and it gets in the way a lot. I can't wait until I can put it in a tail, or at least tuck it behind my ears!
Thanks much!
Joshua
Hi Joshua,
You have posted a most excellent update! You have come a long ways in only 6 months, so your hair appears to be fast growing. Also, it is thick and healthy, and you are almost through the awkward phase, so it should be clear sailing from now on, to what ever length you wish, so definitely keep it growing!
Take care,
David
Thank you!
I should mention that it was about 3" back in October after the haircut, so this is actually more than 6 months growth. Taking a few measurements now and then I've found that I grow at an average 1/2" a month.
Thank you; I do my best to take care of it. I am very much looking forward to making it out of the awkward stage, which I am deep in now, lol.
Thanks again,
Joshua
Looking good bro! Looks like you'll hit your goal this year sometime.. Keep it up, you're almost there!
Happy Growing ;-)
Tom
Thanks Tom! That would be sweet if I could reach length by the end of the year. It's hard to say without actually seeing it, but I think I'll at least be close by Christmas.
Joshua
very cool dude! hair is coming along great keep it up, only another 6 months to the big year!
Thanks Mark. I can't wait for the 12 month mark. I can't believe it's been 6 already!
Joshua
Hi Jmustang
You hair looks good. By the way, I have passed my 6th month mark in June of 2007. By that time, my hair was starting to cover my ears. Auckward stage was a bit annoying to me, since wind can wip up my hair. During the summer months, I put bobby pins in my hair in my forhead, so my hair would not get in the way of my eyes (I no longer have that problem).
You hair seems to grow fast.
Regardless
Thanks for your compliments. The wind can definitely be very annoying, I've discovered. As I mentioned elsewhere, I started with about a 3" haircut six months ago, so what you see is actually about a year's worth of growth.
Thanks again,
Joshua
Nice update, you've made good progress for only six months.
You're right your akward stage seems not so bad.
Good luck in growing!
Wouldn't you know it, the day after my update I have my worst hair day in a while. I have flips and curls all over the place and it refuses to cooperate. Oh well; part of the journey.
Thanks for your complements, Vincent.
Joshua
Lol, I reconize that I'm at 8 months right now but our lenght is about the same as yours was longer when you started. Sometimes my hair is anoying me and sometimes it's better.
But we know why were doing it so it's worth it.
Hi Joshua,
Very nice hair and update pics as it sounds like you have your longhair journey already mapped out.Everyone has different goals for length so based on what you stated in you post you should be a at that goal in no time.
Mark
Thanks for your complements and advice, Mark. I really hope it won't be too long, 'cause sometimes the awkward stage can really be a pain!
Joshua
Thanks for your update and you hair is coming along great and looks in great condition and just keep it growing. Your almost out of the awkward stage and it gets easier then.
Cheers,
John.B
Thank you thank you, kind sir. This is one of the few things in life that you're glad when you're "over the hill," hehe. Hope it won't be too much longer.
Joshua
Hey there! You've got an excellent head of hair and you should be out of the 'awkward stage' in no time. Thanks for the update and keep up the good work!
~gman
Thanks gman! I'll definitely keep it up, though unfortunately there's not much I can do other than wait. :-P lol.
Joshua
Looks like you have the right kind of hair for growin long Joshua. All the best to you.
Frank
Thank you very much, Frank. Just curious: what do you mean by "the right kind of hair?"
Joshua
You are getting some good length and nice straight hair like yours has little of an awkward stage. Shoulder length or even longer will compliment you well. Looking great.
MB
Thank you kindly for your complements, Matt. My hair actually has a slight wave to it that is more or less depending on the day. Yesterday it was good, today it's really wavy/curly. Glad to hear you like the longer length. That seems to be the consensus, but opinions here might be biased. . . not sure what gives me that idea. . . lol, seriously though, thanks.
Joshua
Joshua;
That is a very nice and impressive update.....you hair is growing fast and is so thick and heavy that the awkward stage is going to be a "breeze" for you. With your texture and when you have more length you will be the rare breed that look great on a windy day.
Thanks for Sharing
WWT (Walter White Tail)
Thank you Mr. White Tail! (Do any hunting?) My mom seemed to think my hair was rather thin, so I'm not sure really. It could be that, being the day after my shower, my oils made it "clump" a little and look heavier and thicker than it actually is. Maybe I'll take a "blowing in the wind pic" later on and let you decide. lol.
In any case, thank you again for your compliments.
Joshua
"...Mr. White Tail! (Do any hunting?)..."
Only with a camera !!
"...I'll take a "blowing in the wind pic" later on and let you decide. lol..."
I look forward to that !

You are off to a very good start and the hair is looking great. If you were to avoid at this point "even-up" trims you would reach your goal before not all that long from now and cut down on considerable months of waiting.
In any case superb hair with great colour!
ps: Something to consider. The "even-up" theory, (if to be really technical about it) is impossible. Why? (And this goes for anyone with long hair.) Hair is NEVER even. New growth in constant exchange with the old growth falling-out makes this so. Lengths will always be different no matter what one does. But in the end, just letting the hair grow and do its own thing looks nice and full despite all.
Thanks for your compliments, Justin. I totally understand where you're coming from regarding trims and evening. The only reason I got a trim was that the last layer on the bottom in the back was disproportionally longer than the the rest of my hair. Sort of a "rat tail" effect. Only the back was trimmed and only the back will be trimmed again if needed. The plan right now is to trim it again in two months, but I may find at that time that it looks ok and doesn't need another trim. If I do trim, it will help eliminate the layers from my last haircut and "even things up," and then it will come to my goal length all at once. But again, that's a big "if." Best laid plans of mice and men, and all that.
I just wanted to let you know that I'm not scissor-happy and that I didn't get a trim 'cause the flips were irritating or anything like that. There's a reason to my madness, believe it or not. lol.
Thanks again,
Joshua
Well understood now Joshua and believe it or not, there has always been a reason to my own madness. You are going to have sensational long hair as can be seen already. And the colour is simply beyond magnificent! Best wishes to you in the many months ahead that it takes, but is SO worth the wait.
Justin~
Looks really good Joshua!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Thanks Bruce!
Will do.
