Did we become a I love my trim site. I don't think trimming early is very supportive of growing long hair. But that's just me, I could be wrong.
I agree with you, Quester. I have had 0 trims in my growing journey and DO NOT plan getting any trims anytime soon.
I have honestly never understood trimming, as I have never gotten one in the past 4 years. I love every little bit of length I get, and I am reluctant to give any of it up.
Great advice, eh trimmers!
Will the world stop turning if we get split ends or have trim trim away!
Cheers,
John.B
Not to my knowledge. Did we?
If some individual on his own trims early, how is that not being supportive of growing long hair by the many users of this board? The users certainly didn't do the trim nor did they have a thing to do with it.
And this is just me, and I could be wrong. But then again, I could be right just as you could be right without knowing that you were wrong. And without knowing what one could be, should be or couldn't be, a wrong could be right and a right could be wrong even if the wrong was right and the right was wrong.
I've been noticing this too, and yes it's been bothering me a bit also.
I've noticed an increasing amount of newer members with awkward stage hair looking for inspiration not to cut. Even though I have only been here since October of last year, there never seemed to be any trim topics, and if there were trim topics, they were split end trims and only that.
I guess I can say I came here at a fortunate time because yes there were plenty of times when I was starting to grow my hair out that I felt like getting a trim, but you longhairs held me back, and thanks to you I finally am passed that awkward stage. (whew long sentence)
I still do not plan on getting any trims until after I reach my goal of waist length. And only then will I keep maintenance trims for split end removal and to maintain the length.
Keep it growing everyone.

And everyone is going to grow their hair differently. Some people's lives require that they have regular trims (due to work policies, etc.), whereas others don't have to worry about it. I have also noticed an increase in "trim" posts, but I think it's just coincidental. Besides, not everyone is blessed with an excellent set of hair genes, and eventually they will have damaged ends.

ARe people feeling more confident about discussing their concerns including trims.
I have contributed to this site since 2004 (whilst preferring to maintain my anonymity) and we have gone through phases of people goring out (Surferdude/Sorted) to the current period where people are trimming more.
I don't think that there is an issue, merely a phase.

Well trimmers you know who you are!
I don't do mine due to pressure of work lol.

I think this is one of the funniest (funny haha) posts that I have ever read on this board.
Thanks, John!
I trimmed my hair because my reasons for growing long hair is not that I have some inner feeling of being long hair, my reason for growing long hair is because I liked how it looked, and I didn't like the back being a lot longer than the front so I trimmed, made it look better so I was happier.
The reason a lot of people grow their hair out is because they like how long hair looks, and trims can make people like their hair more and if they like it more they'll be less likely to cut it.
Indeed we do see a few more trim posts lately but I'll agree it's just a phase. I've always said if one has a compelling reason to trim like damage or desire for a certain length than no problem.
But on the other hand to run off and trim because of awkward stage bits that are less comfortable will only prolong that stage. As james has said everyone is different.

TY all for your responses. I was just curious as to the general consensus. And of course ... To each their own and Peace.
I actually hated to trim, but at 27 months I had a lot of split-ends, so I trimmed, my one and only. I do think trimming just for the sake of trimming is counter productive, but if it makes people happy, that's their buisness. It just makes getting to long hair, well.... long.

Ahhhhhh... To trim, or not to trim... THAT is the question! LOL I've trimmed for length control and will takle the occasional split end, otherwise I've left it alone the last few years. I've always hated the "trimmed" straight across the back look personally.. To each their own ;-))

I had a very bad few weeks, and even as i sat in the chair i knew i could be making a very big mistake.
But since doing it, I feel like i could go on now forever with no trims. Just hope I still feel like that when the flicks come back, which wont be long.
If by trims you mean "inches" of hair, then I agree.
But if you mean a "dusting", then I absolutely disagree.
I had a standing appointment every 12 weeks for a dusting trim (about 1/8" - 1/4")during my whole growing process and guess what...my hair still grew! I reached waist length in 3.5 years. The trims helped my hair stay nice looking during the entire process. It also eliminated the need for any major trim down the road to destroy out of control split ends.
It still boils down to this....Do you even remotely care if your hair looks nice OR do you only care about length?
That sounds great and why not post a picture..:-)
Cheers,

How feeble for a 12 week trim!
I'd kill to get waist length hair in 3.5 years. ive been growing for 4 years, and i'm only just past half of my back.
Agreed. Trimming during the awkward stage is just prolonging the awkward stage.
I did do a minor trim after two years. My ends were thin and prone to tangles. A quarter inch in front and the sides and less than an inch in the back and all was good.
Now working on three years.
I trimmed about 2 months ago only to control a "rat tail" that was forming in the back. If it takes a slight trim to avoid a mullet, then so be it.... Just my 2 cents....
I agree with you. Trimming early only makes you take longer to get your hair you want. Trimming only works in later stages of growth, if the ends of your hair end up getting damaged, and even then, you only need to trim one inch of your hair off.
Regardless
My MySpace
hair was ment to grow on its own....trims are just unnessecary as long as you take care of it!
