Hi there,
Well reading the interesting posts this week, perhaps we should start a spinoff "the longhair to shorthair trimmers board!!!".
Woops sorry I forgot book my 12 week standing appointment for a trim!!!
Forgive me for beinbg stupid but this is a longhair forum and if you want to talk about trims, start yout own board!!!
Comments pls!
Cheers,
John.B
I always trim my hair 1 minute past midnight on the night of a full moon. and always exactly 3/8 of an inch no more no less.
When do you trim?
LOL
Kevin
Never!!!
Well im sort of an anti-trimmer myself. I don't like the thought of losing length, and since my old barber who cut my hair for a decade retired shortly after i started growing my hair i have nobody i trust who could trim it. If i tried it, it would be one of those horry stories where i lose close to 3/4 of my length.
I join you in your "keep the trimming off the board" crusade.
lol...

Hi Kane,
Thank for for your support and as for our "feeble 12 week appt dusting crew!!!" let grow or we are too fond of liking ourselves and our hair!
Cheers,
John.B
I try to avoid trims. Trimming makes my hair not look good. I told you about it before.
Regardless
My MySpace
Hmmm I got a lot more trimmers defending when I posted. Guess you're meaner looking than me.
Trimming might be necessary for some people or simply desired for others and to each their own.. I don't trim and I personally don't like reading a post about how one made thier hair shorter when I'm enjoying the board for it's promotion of making hair longer.. Trim all you want but some things are best left unsaid.. It's a downer.. :-{

I'm not too upset by the trimmers/cutters. In many cases it's their way of expressing doubt and/or saying good-bye. In some cases, it's just impatience. If they didn't tell us they were trimming we couldn't tell the to be patient.
As for people who really get their jollies about cuts, there are already boards for that.
Yikes! I like the growing my hair out long posts the best. Oh sure, now and then a trim may be in order. But if the hair is only several inches long to begin with, there isn't all that much to comment about when sheared back and have to wait to gain what has been lost for another 4-5 months.
Ha Ha Ha. Worse for me. I forgot to make my appointment.
Well, for myself I am very content with this board and being supportive of guys growing out their hair so I have no personal plans, (nor would I ever) in starting my own "Trim your hair" board. In fact, the very thought of such a board bores me. But of course this is just myself. Perhaps there would be a following for such a board.......but I would never know. "If" such a board did exist, sissors should probably be put up for auction to fund the show-site! LOL

Hey, I could trim my hair enough times until I needed extensions! Then I could shave off my mustache - damn it gets too much milk in it when I eat - and I could get a glue-on mustache to wear when I am not eating. Should I get one that matches my beard or one that matches my extensions? I'll need that trimmers board to get appropriate advice. Also, I've always wanted thick dark bushy eyebrows; I could get some of those to glue on too!
Bill
Great idea Bill and forget the awkward phase and getting extensions is alot easier and hey presto longhair! Now we must find tha helpful advice board!
Cheers,
John.B
Boards like this actually exist. I just briefly read from a few of them. One woman mentioned she spent £420 for hair extensions. That is a lot of money.
Scott
Lets get those links!!! I'm excited. i love new things. Can I get cheaper extensions at wal mart? I'm poor.
Either the dollar store or maybe Sams Club.
LOL

Don't laugh. Some of the visitors to my partner's boots site will lay down that much for a pair of Wesco Big Boss boots. They are their equivalent to our "hair down to the crotch", except of course that they approach that area from the opposite direction. [grin] The nature of boots is that they are clothing which is worn, not a part of the body which is grown, so becoming a bootman in an afternoon with your Visa card is considered by the crowd to be okay. Then when they get home with their boots they fret for years about when it is okay or not to wear them. With us, "getting over" that problem is part of becoming a longhair, and our having to do so makes us very culturally different from the boots crowd. Where we go, our manes must go too. We know a lot of men from both groups, and we often comment to each other on how the culture of the two groups is quite different.
Bill
...stop being so "snippy" HA!
I agree ;)
I did have a trim once, it was bad...
Well I don't trim myself until now and haven't planned any trim soon. But if people feel they want a small trim who am I to stop them. Everybody different, some people cut the back to avoid a mullet is used the "mullet" to make my fist ponytail.
Whatever way you choose eventualy you will arrive at the lenght you want.
I think what John was addressing is the spate of posts we've gotten lately where the guy's first post is that he is trimming, or cutting almost all his hair off altogether. And there are also a few who trim repeatedly and then whine on here that their manes aren't getting any longer.
A lot of us trim at some time or another just to neaten up the ends once our hair gets long. I don't think John was speaking to that. That is consistent with our stated goal of supporting men who want to grow and maintain LONG hair.
It's a longrunning item in netiquette lists of rules that one becomes acquainted with what a group is about before posting to it. We've lately encountered quite a few people who were not properly mentored when they came into the Internet hobby, and the crew is finding itself more and more in the position of having to play mother to such people. Site logs show that almost none of them read the FAQs or many of other people's posts before posting, and almost all of them post as anonymously as possible. For the most part, guys who are on the up and up tend to post on topic and otherwise don't strongly meet that profile.
The lines connecting the Internet together are like a public street, but when you enter a web site you are on private property, and the hosts get to call the shots. We've decided to throw a party for a certain group, and those who don't fit, or are not comfortable with the group's values the way that they are, are advised to go elsewhere. There is infinite space on the Internet and they can create their own communities if they do not find ours to their liking. We have no interest in their whining about ours.
Bill
Hi Bill,
Yes you have hit the nail on the head. There have been a few repated whines recently.
There is nothing wrong with the occasional trim and nothing wrong with with a dusting 1/8-1/4" and should be fine. But there are some people that have trims of several inches do to so called bad end damage and you don't have to do that. I'm sure our resident stylist Bruce Gallagher would agree with that.
Cheers,
John.B
Ok, sorry for the mistake I was just giving my view on trimming.
I understand what you mean and don't think that people belong to this bord. Well said bill!
A perfect bulls-eye Bill. I don't think anyone could have said it better than you have.
Justin~
The internet is not a public street. It's a series of tubes.
Anyways great post. It seems making post's about trimming is becoming a form of trolling here. Now I dont have a problem with people who trim for maintenance when they already have long hair (I still would not do it myself), but when people essentially trim for the sake of trimming... well I don't know what to say about it.
- Kane
You don't have to annouce your trims to the world. You may do as you please with your hair and if that involves growing it long then we're all ears, information, and advice, but if it's trims you want to talk about go to a trimmers board.
Kevin
If you're talking about major cuts, then I agree.
But the comment about "12 week trims"...I think that all depends. I get mine trimmed every 6 weeks. Mine is as long as I want mine currently, yet I definately have long hair! My hair is longer than the majority who post on this forum (a few inches above my waist) and it got there by having dusting trims every 12 weeks.
I don't post every 6 weeks that I'm getting a trim, but I'll certainly mention it to the people who are so negative about ever getting trims.
There's a difference between a "trim" and a "cut".
