My hair is about chin length and I want to grow it down to about my shoulders. The problem is on the right side it curls up. On the other side its straight. Any tips on how to get the right side to stop curling up?
Put weights on it? :)
Blow dry it under, using a round brush.
In addition to this suggestion, I recommend back combing while you are drying your hair so that it lies flatter. This is done by combing wet hair with a comb first until to hair is mostly dry in the opposite direction to the way you wear it- it takes a few times until you perfect this. Also, Victor's comment about having it layered with the underhair shorter the top hairs longer also helps. If all fails, try Revolon Creme Relaxer which is excellent and Vavoom hair gel for control- finally there is always hair spray to hold it in place! I also agree with using a round brush about halfway through the drying process and curl it UNDER. The relaxer does make a difference and it is not that drastic as some would report IF YOU FOLLOW directions included and test a few strands first! Good Luck! EMail me if any questions.
I've heard it suggested to have an undercut. With an undercut, the layers of hair closest to your head are shorter than the layers closest to the rest of the world. Additionally, make the individual cuts at an angle. I can see how the first item would work, but I don't understand the theory behind the second technique.
Another thing you can do is to experiment with how you comb it when wet. I remember when I was a kid, the thing my brothers and I liked to do was to comb a wave into our hair in the front, sort of Elvis Presley style. I didn't do it to immitate Elvis. I did it because if I let my hair dry this way, when I combed it out, I had a really nice, well behaving wave in my hair. It stopped being so well behaved when my hair got longer than about 4 or 5 inches, though.
