hello there, first post about braids. Never thought id like braids but from the pic here, i think i just might.
one question though. Braiding or ponytailing? which is better suited to outdoors?
regards,
Williamg
Your brade looks nice, By the way, I believe that brading may be more stable when outdoors if the outside is windy, but it is easier and faster to make a ponytail.
Regardless

thanks. time is an issue, but i must say, i do like it. Had some positive comments so far.
The braid really works for you, William. Your hair, in general, looks great! Wonderful length and some nice thickness. Keep it growing and keep experimenting with styles. =)

will do. Still not reached my goal length though. atm i need at least 2 more years growth to reach waist level. But until then, one can only dream!
oops, meant to say "experimenting"
Looks like you're doing pretty well. In my experience, a braid is preferable for doing much of anything active. It does a better job of keeping the hair out of the way and off the neck.
thanks, only problem is time. personally i prefer it down. I only started braiding it because of the condition at the ends
Looks great. Braids are better for the outdoors. Ponytails are more likely to tangle. I wish I could do such a braid in a reasonable ammount of time.
Yep What he said.
Burzum fan! Nice.
My short-lived experiment with braiding in front of a web cam that takes lousy pictures. [grin]

That is absolutely awesome Bill!
I can't wait to some day grow a beard like that lol. Perhaps if I do a philosophy Ph.D it would be especially fitting :D
Thanks! My mane hair is very fine, but my beard hair is almost as coarse as straw. Note that the braid stayed put without any tie on the end at all!
Bill
One of my friends has a longer beard, nowhere near as long as yours, but enough to braid. He's found the same thing, that it will stay pretty well without a tie.
wow, that's cool!
i usually don't like beards, but here i make an exception!!!
Hi William,
First of all, what an outstanding mane, and awesome job with your braid. I have heard that braids are better at reducing tangles in hair than ponytails, but I have not been able to master the hand motions to do a decent braid. One of these days, I will try again, and for now, all I have been wearing is a ponytail.
Keep it growing,
David
Good job there!
A braid keeps all the hair in place, it's really good for outdoors or exercise and workouts.
Great pics! Your hair looks amazing.
I usually wear mine in a braid as it stops it tangling and keeps it in better condition. It just takes a couple of minutes to do, but if you're in more of a hurry, you could try a segmented tail - a few ties a couple of inches apart.
Good job ! For outdoor, I prefer braids : this way, you get no tangles.

Dude you have awesome longhair as it looks to be in fantastic condition. As far as tailing or braiding goes I normally tail my hair while outdoors but a braid would definately do a better job against tangling especially if its windy.I just have to learn how to do one as I guess I'm a bit lazy because I keep saying that.LOL.However lots of guys here do braid and it looks to be an efficient way to control ones hair. Thanks for the great pics too!

Wow your hair looks in amazing shape and very thick.
Braiding is better when its windy ouside to reduce tangles.
the use of multiple hair ties at intervals of 3 or 4 inches. It is much easier to do than a braid and it cuts down on tangling by maybe 90%. I ride a bicycle to stay fit and it works well for me. My hair is about 4 inches longer now than when this photo was taken.

Easier if you can manage to get them tied properly. Every time I try a segmented ponytail I can't get the ones past the first positioned properly, and I usually manage to get the top one disarranged while I'm trying to place the others.
Jim
The key to this is to use 2 ties nested into each other for the top one. Leave these 2 intertwined. They act as one tie and won't slide down easily. Place the second one 2 inches below the top one and slide it down to the point to where there is a 4 inch space between it and the top one. Do this with your hair in back of you to keep it even. These critical first 2 ties will anchor your hair well for placing the rest of the ties, allowing you to have your hair in front to see what you are doing. Put the third one about 2 inches below the second one. Slide the third one to where it is 4 inches below the second one. For ties 3 4 5 and so on your hair can be kept in front with good results. I can get mine very even using this method. You can see this in my photo from the back. I tend to place them a bit closer together toward the end of my tail as you can see.
Scott
Thanks for the tips, Scott. I'll have to give that a try, as soon as I go shopping for some more hair ties. Between me wearing them out and my wife stealing them, I'm down to two.
Jim
Wife stealing them lol, nice :D
The braid looks well done William and you have great hair to work with. I think the braid is the best bet for outdoor activity, but like a lot of the others, I just tail it.
