Now that my hair has reached mid back length I'm considering letting it grow to my knees and perhaps longer. Was wondering what are the advantages to extreme long hair? Is it worth the effort?
I am glad you asked, and I have mixed feelings about it. I only intend to grow my hair down mid-back, maybe a bit longer, but not knee-deep. Here's my answer. Unfortunately, it is possible that your hair will reach terminal length before you reach knee length. If your hair grows out extremely fast, it might reach that length. There are some drawbacks about having hair that long. You may sit on it, or it may get stuck in a doorway, and you may pull some of your hair off. I say you can try if you wish but I prefer mid-back length myself. That's just my opinion.

Knee length hair may not be for everyone. And I respect your opinion. For the time being I'll give it a shot.
Thanks,
Kai

There are at least three people in the user's directory who can definitively answer "yes".
Ed
Some day there will be four (lol).
Seems to me it would be a matter of personal preference as oposed to being adventageous in some way. If you want hair to your knees than grow it if you can.
Kevin
Kevin, Thanks. I will certainly try.
When I started growing my hair I didn't have a particular goal, but I thought mid-bach was enough for my definition of "long". Then I got there, and it didn'd seem enough anymore; I set my goal to belt length, got there, and wanted more. Now I'm at tailbone, and who knows? I think that if you want extreme length (not that my hair is extremely long), you have to go for it and you'll overcome the drawbacks. After all, an knee long beard would have similar problems, but that's what you want, isn't it?
Ale: It's men like you that inspire! I too keep wanting more length. As for drawbacks, I look on them as chalenges. I don't think I will ever be hairy enough as there is always the next couple of nches to look forward too.
Kai
I think you should go for it. You might as well at least go as far as you can tolerate. As far as maintenance is concerned, it's not going to be knee-length the next day which is good in the sense that as it grows you can slowly adjust to the new length and you'll probably manage just fine. If it gets to a point where it's too much, cut it back a little, and you might find that somewhere between mid-back and knee is right for you along the way. Good luck and I completely say you should give it a shot. There are very few who have reached the knee-length milestone and you seem to have interest in joining those few which is great! Take care.

Phil, You are right. The best thing about hair is that it
it grows. I am certainly adventurous enough to try growing my
mane and beard as long as they will grow. I look forward to joining the few, the proud, and the hairy.
Thanks,
Kai

Hahahahaha, well said Kai!!!
Mega-longhairs enjoy the following advantages over other mere mortals & ordinairy Earthlings...
1) Mega-longhairs often are known to have superior sex and reproductive abilities, sometimes reported to be so fertile as to have as many as 18 or more children;
2) their athletic prowess and artistic talents, not to also mention their superior IQ and good looks, enables them to win local as well as national football games, Boston marathons, college schollarships, international dance contests, and even get excellent sales from all of their Art Shows!
3) Often becoming CEOs of mult-million $$$ companies, mega-longhairs are frequently asked to give graduation speeches and introducing prominent politicians at local and national rallies;
4) in big demand for writing a book about their mega-longhair life, their book often makes the NY Times Best Seller list (if they ever complete that book, that is --- which requires getting up off their chair once in awhile, which is a difficulty, since sitting on their own hair can be so comfortable - lol)....
5) Mega-longhairs never have to get face lifts as they age, since their hair is always growing (making the face always appear fresh and youthful).
On the down-side, though:
Mega-longhairs sometimes suffer from being very lonely, due to community envy of their perfect teeth, porcelain skin, and awesome physiques (including mega-bulging biceps and rock-hard abs)....
And, if you believe ANY of the above: I have a bridge for sale!!!

Sorry, but I don't believe in those statements. There is no connection between hair length and IQ, reproductive abilities or fitness. It is your brain that decides those things, not your hair.

What is the nazarite club?
it is a friendly joke but to find out who the Nazarites are read Numbers 6 in the Bible. Samson, Samual, and John the Baptist were members of it. :)

PS I "envy" yuour hair
I have been trying to grow mine out for eight years and still just below my shoulders
I'm not sure that you can assign actual advantages to extremely long hair other than personal satisfaction and visual interest to others...and possibly some degree of body insulation.
It's also a visual extension of your personality and an easy identifier to others.
You intentionally grow hair that long because you can and you want to.
Personally, I've found that if you have the patience and right attitude to grow hair that long it's quite a rewarding experience which, among other things, teaches you much about yourself as well as social trends and attitudes.
Thanks. Great insight and advise.
