So I decided to let my hair grow out and right now it is about 4 inches long. When it is wet my hair goes down the way I like it but when it is dry it gets wavy/curly and stays up and won't go down. I was wondering if when it gets longer it will start staying down on its own or will it continue to go up and look wild(I hope not). I want to have it down to my mid back but I worry if it will look weird and poofy and not stay down.
Thanks for any help!
This post will bring some good news for you. This is true for all of us who want to grow out our hair. When you start growing out your hair, it is going to go through an awkward phase where your hair can be out of control. This phase is temoprary. Once your hair gets long enough, it will weigh more and your hair will start staying down on its own, even when dry. I can tell, by what you said, that you had recently entered the awkward stage. By the time your hair reach mid-back, your hair will definitely stay down since it is heavier and it will not look wild.
I had to go through this stage last summer, when my hair was shorter. When it was windy, my hair gets in my face, blocking out my eyesight, so I put bobby pens to hold my hair down so it does not get in my line of sight.
Here's one thing you should do to make your life a bit easier during the awkward stage. Do not cut or trim your hair during the awkward stage. It will only prolong the awkward stage, and you do not want that.
Good luck with the awkward stage and achieveing your desired length.

Hey Henry, Only advice I can give you is be patient and wear a hat or something during the awkward stage.. As your hair grows longer it will lay down more and more. Look forward to seeing pics of your progress.. Good Luck! ;-))

Your now in a stage what we call akward stage, your hair will be messy but with enough lenght it will look better. The only thing you can do is wait and don't cut it to make it look better.
While in the akward stage you can wear a hat or bandana when you don't want your hair in the way.
Looking forward to see some progress pics, good luck with hair growing!
Hi Henry
Well there is not much more for me to add as what was said by the others is correct.Just be patient which you will need lots of and also don't let negitive comments bother or discourage you either as some people will try and tell you you that you look better with short hair.If your are still struggling with the awkward stage you may even be tempted to cut or trim it which would be a big mistake. So hang tough and you will have great hair that behaves itself before you know it:)Take care and good luck on your journey.

Hi Henry, Welcome to the hyperboard.
When growing out your hair and it's all wild and mibehaves you may want ot consider styling products to help keep it in check. As well as was mentioned already hat's bandanas etc. If you get a chance shoot us a pic and we can better give you some suggestions.
In the awkward stage your hair will drive you insane but don't give up.

Hi Henry, you might try some Jojoba Oil to help with the dryness of your hair. A little goes a long way and it good for your hair. It helps mine.

Thanks for all the help.
I will take some pics as soon as I get a camera.
Welcome Henry.
My hair is wild and while I was growing out through the awkward stage it would stick out all over the place. Its still wild now but at least it faces towards the ground!!
Personally I wouldn't change my hair for anything.
Good luck in your hair journey.
