Hey People, decided to go to Armstrong Woods, a virgin redwood grove just 2 miles from where I live and I couldn't resist getting in at least one hair oriented shot. The trees I was looking up at were ar least 250 ft. in height, with many larger. Hope everyone in the US has a good holiday.
Cheers,
Max
Hey Regardless, glad you liked the pic. It's 100% better in person though...
Hope you are doing well.
Cheers,
Max
Good you added that. I doubt many of us would be woofing at the trees. [grin] (What WAS going through your mind when you typed the subject!)
I went out for dinner with RickG, who rode his bike up from San Jose. I tossed on a red shirt and a blue bandanna, and I let my white beard complete my patriotic red, white, and blue outfit.
Bill
Hey Bill. LOL...I guess it pays to proofread!!! I can't say anything about what I was thinking when I typed that...at least not that I'm aware of...one of those Freudian slips perhaps???
Now, if you were in the grove with that memorial day outfit, well then that would have been something to woof at! :-)
Thanks for getting in touch.
Cheers,
Max
We'll have to look you up if we get up Guerneville way, and you can do the same if you get down here. You may want to come down here on June 8 - the Haight Ashbury Street Fair is that day, and there are always lots of our kind there!
bill
Hey Bill thanks for the heads-up on the Haight Ashbury thing...but I will be away all of June on holiday with my family from back east. Won't be back until around July 14th, so I'm gonna miss some stuff, including this board. :-(
But, yeah, if you guys are around here at all just let me know. Lots of stuff to see around here.
Cheers,
Max
That pretty much narrows down where you live. Those are
impressive redwoofs!
Hey MG, yeah, those redwoods give it away every time. Hope you are doing well.
Cheers,
Max
Those trees are huge, I definately want to see them irl once in my life. Your hair is coming along nicely!
Hi Vincent, thanks for the good words. Yes, you must see the redwoods at some point.
PS Your hair is coming along very well indeed.
Cheers,
Max
Thanks, my avatar picture is about a month old so it's a little bit longer now. In half month I will do my 10th month update.
Hey Max cool trees and hair as well!!Its incredible how large these trees are and the fact that they survived so long is to be appreciated.I wish I had the time to check out those forests when I was out west a few weeks ago but unfortunately there is only so much time available.I definately intend to make a return trip sooner than later. As for your mane it looks soooo cool with that backdrop and the length is fantastic.Do you intend to grow your hair much longer as I would hope so.You would look outstanding with a waist length mane:)YEA!Take care my friend.Cheers!
Mark
Wish we had known, Mark! There is a redwood forest just a few miles from where we all met for lunch!
Many of the redwoods were cut down for construction years ago (our house is almost all redwood except for the floors), but there are pockets of redwoods left scattered all over the place, and the locals all know where they are.
Bill
And, if you want to break open the piggy bank, you can even buy your own redwood forest:

Nice find, Steve!
--Rick
Oh that would have been cool to see that especially being nearby Duarte's.Well the next time I'm out west I hope we can get meet again and even spend more time together as that afternoon just went by so quickly.I would have liked to meet up with the others who could not be there but I understand that can happen when trying to get a large group together.Let me thank you too for arranging the lunch date as it was great to see you and Larry. Its funny how Larry picked me out when I first walked in the door and I could not find you at first.Guess the longhair was the clue:)
Mark
I guess Larry was looking for a lost longhair, and you fit the bill.
I just figured your brother would have taken you to see all the stuff you really wanted to see, so I didn't ask you. We could have gone to see redwoods instead of just hanging out for an hour after lunch on the main street in Pescadero. Well, now though you have a reason to come back!
Bill
Yes Larry has a great eye for the longhairs especially you:)Well don't worry Bill as I intend to make a return trip again soon so I'll keep you guys posted. It would have been great to meet Scott if we hadn't tried to drag him out of bed so early. And unfortunately Ken is the workaholic right now but I hope next time we can work out that met as well.I did call Ken on his cell and we chatted for an hour which was cool. He's really a nice guy on the phone so in person has to be be better.
Even though I did things with my brother there is so much to do out your way I know I missed a lot.Anyway as the Gov says... "I'll Be Back!"LOL.Take care Bill and say Hi to Larry for me:)
Mark
Hey Mark, thanks for getting in touch. Yeah, next time you are out here, DEFINITELY see the redwoods! Thanks for the good words on my hair. I do plan on growing it further at least for another year or so...not quite sure it will make it to waist length at terminal though...but it's a nice thought.
On the redwood front, there are many trees in that grove that are over 1000 years old with the oldest two being 1300 and 1400 years old...unreal huh???
Take care Mark
Cheers,
Max
Hi Max,
What an awesome photo of some of the most magestic living things on the planet, and I hope that I will have the opportunity to see these beautiful trees some day.
Your hair is certainly growing quickly, and it appears to be at mid back length already, which is quite impressive for approximately 2 years of growth. You should have no problem achieving waist length or even longer hair if that is your goal.
Take care,
David
Hey David, thanks for the compliments. I agree, redwoods are majestic indeed! I figured while I was looking at the trees it would be a good excuse to get a photo of me with my head back like that...making my hair look longer than what it is. Not mid-back yet...I'll give it another year before I can confidently say that...but thanks for the vote of confidence!
Cheers,
Max
Very cool photo Max,
I too took advantage of the great weather we had here in NJ and went for a few hikes over the weekend. Unfortunatly we don't have redwoods here; I've always wanted to visit a redwood forest. That's awesome that it's practically in your backyard. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad it looks like you had a great weekend too on that side of the US.
-Phil
Hey Phil, glad you liked the pic, but I bet you had better weather in Jersey than we did here...it was very cold actually...only in the 50's and low 60's. But I made the best of if as you can see by the photo.
Cheers,
Max
The redwoods are something else aren't they?
Thanks for sharing the pic
Kevin
So you say and I've not seen them myself, but I have to say Burham Beeches are very impressive and in the dark as well!
Cheers,
John.B
Hey Kevin, right you are...I never get tired of looking at them, even at the risk of neck problems. :-)
Cheers,
Max
Thanks for the pics, Max. Those trees are simply amazing. Spent 20 years in California, and never made it up to see them, and now I'm on the other coast.
Jim
Hey Jim, nice to hear from you. It's a shame you never saw the redwoods in their glory...they are truly amazing. Thanks for getting in touch. BTW, your hair is also amazing!
Cheers,
Max
Well, the millenium is still young, so I've got time, LOL. My brothers both live in the Sacramento area, so the next time I visit them, I may have to make a detour. And thanks!! :)
Jim
Max, Had a great holiday! Awesome shot of you in the redwood forest. Reminds me of when Bill and Larry took us to the Muir Woods in Marin County north of San Fransisco. A great walk in the woods and two trips across the Golden Gate.
A great day! Thanks guys.
peace, jonalbear
Hi Jonal, glad you liked the pic and thanks. Muir woods is also amazing. The tallest trees at Armstrong woods are around 310ft...unbelievable. And some discovered a few years ago in Humboldt country are over 375ft!
Cheers,
Max
Max;
Your hair seems to be growing at a incredible rate....well done !
What folks who have never strolled through a Redwood Forest are missing in photos is the incredible, almost overwhelming aroma !! Being a desert rat, a walk in the woods is a special treat for me !
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Hey Walter, thanks for the compliments. You are correct...photos really don't do the redwoods much justice and the scent is invigorating...
Cheers,
Max
Thanks very much Urban!!!
Cheers,
Max
Fantastic photo Max and thanks for posting this.
Alas, as many times back in the 90's I stayed in a Redwoods Forest just south of Pescadero, I never took a photo. But, I was out of tin for the camera. LOL
Justin~
Thanks Justin, everytime I go to this redwood grove which is only 2 miles away, I can't resist taking many many photos...and of the same trees over and over...I just love them.
Cheers,
Max
Did you hug any of them?
Steve NoVA, aka istartedi, hugs a tree
Hey Steve, yes I did hug a few...but when no one was looking! :-) Great pic of you by the redwood tree on Flikr...where was that?
Cheers,
Max
This is in Big Basin state park. Santa Cruz mountains area. Fortunately, it's nowhere near the part that just burned.
Well I must a had a very enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend as with most public holidays in the UK it always rains!
The Redwoods are certainy at the top of my list when I visit the west coast next.
Great picture mate.
Cheers,
John.B
Hey John, glad you liked the pic. Yeah, the redwoods are captivating...just like being in a prehistoric forest. But it is really...
Cheers,
Max
Hey Max. Great picture. Your hair and the scenery look great. I just got back from a trip to Egypt and I'm hoping to post a few pictures. I didn't see any long hairs over there.
Del
Hey Del, thanks very much. Lookin forward to seein your Egypt pics...wow!
Cheers,
Max
Hey Max, my big buddy!
That is a beautiful picture, the tree is absolutley stunning and having yourself in the picture adds a very cool touch and makes for an excellent update. Your hair looks mighty fine dude!!
Thanks for posting Max
Cheers Dave
Hey Dave, good to hear from you...thanks for the good words. Looking forward to seeing more of your art sometime soon. Perhaps some of your creative talents will rub off on me...one can only hope...
Take care,
Max
